He'll be at Southampton for one season before he moves on. I hear we're interested in Meirles whom a Chelsea fan has said is stronger than Modric. I wonder if this is AVB raiding his old club and doing a fellow Portuguese a favour.

yeah, I agree TMT. if the transfer isn't stolen by us or Liverpool (like the sig scenario), then it'll just be a stepping stone, like you say.

Miereles is ****ing dog ****. I don't want that C*nt anywhere near us. one of the most overrated players in the league. And I'm sorry, but if we sign him, that's the nail in the coffin that we're actually given up on real targets. It's AVB conceding that "he'll have to do for now". - and again, comes back to the point Ihave made about is splashing 10mill or so on average payers, when we've gotta pay that little bit extra, rather than just waste money. Miereles will be a prime example.

I can see it happening with all of Chelseas midfielders, too.

QPR have signed Bosingwa! jesus. just about everyone is improving their squads, except for us.

(don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I rate Bosingwa, but that's a good improvement for QPR!)

You're right about Merieles, glad we got £12m for him tbh <ok>

Anyone else picturing Tevez and Mascherano at West Ham on this one?

What gets me is his wages are around £17.5k per week at Bologna, so even doubling his wages would've fit into our wage structure. Southampton can't do that by any means.

Makes you wonder what you offered him in terms of wages to turn it down <whistle>

That may be why then. Whats your wage cap - Like 70k right?

It's rumoured that Bale is on £100k now, although there's no real source to back that up and it was first thought he was put on £80k when he signed his new contract.

I don't think we have a proper wage cap anymore, if we do it's probably £80-100k.

Probably what Levy has tried to do is make exceptions to our general wage cap.

It won't work, of course, because every one of our players will be demanding the higher figure, when it comes time to renew his contract. If Levy doesn't agree to the wage demand, and the players leaves, we'll have to offer the higher wage to attract a replacement, anyway.

Our clubs were both interested in Ramirez and we both have more pull and financial clout than the saints, makes you wonder why neither of us decided to go for him? :/

It's all a bit odd, isn't it? If we had a bid accepted of around £12mill I'd expect us to be willing to pay them up to £50k a week wages which surely would've been enough. I could understand if we didn't meet their valuation on the player but if we think he's worth £12mill you'd expect to be giving him good wages as we must rate him. Maybe the agent was just talking BS to make Southampton up their offer.

has there been any concrete evidence that we (either us or Liverpool) had a bid accepted and spoke to the player? This has "lets use Spurs/Liverpool rumours to get a better deal" written all over it to me

Only what the agent said about us having made a bid but the wages not being enough.

Inter Milan, Spurs & Liverpool, if all three clubs won't offer higher wages then saints, or match the fee saints have offered then either

A) none of these clubs were interested

or

B) the general view is that he isn't worth the risk

Who knows which is true, he could well be a class act in the premier league and we have missed a trick (wouldn't be the first time) but i'll be happy for saints if he turns out to be a top player as out of the promoted clubs they are the one I want to stay up.
