Corners are a farce now. You could stop all the shenanigans by simply declaring that if a player uses his arms or hands on another player a penalty a free kick or disallowing a goal will occur. Depending on who committed the offence.

We know from WC 2018 what happens when
the officials persistently punish penalty box Judo.

We also saw it in PL 2016-17, when after the
Lesta miracle the refs started punishing the
Huth-ball of the season before.

Set the edicts. Be PERSISTENT. Be CONSISTENT.

I have reminded myself that this was where England scored most of their goals from corners and the pushing and shoving grew. So the officials didn't punish it, did they? Or are you talking about something else?

Perfect, fine with me. Wouldn't be an enjoyable title win without rival tears filling up the buckets along the way. The more asterisks the better... each asterisk representing the next notch on the tear-ometer of rival frothing.

No frothing here

well there is but not by me

Teams got awarded penalties because of Judo in the box.
England were a big beneficiary of that.

Just as now the refs. are letting fouls go so that the game flows. Then as they gradually lose control they clamp down. Resulting in an imbalance on what teams are carded for. Far too much interference in the game by refs. which is now added to by VAR. All encouraged by the media who ache for talking points.

Whatever it is, being obvious is not it. Awarding penalties encourages diving in the box and 'professional' play. The only answer is what I thought you were advocating. Enforce the rules consistently.

The penalties were awarded against defenders
engaging in Judo (literally in some cases) .

The refs enforced the edict consistently, and
teams in the group stage soon got the message.

So you are suggesting that there is a blueprint for changing what is happening in the PL. As we can see from European football there are different instructions to their refs from those of the PL.

The rules should be consistent wherever the game is played but clearly they are not. I suspect that it is our FA that is the problem and UEFA that is not exerting their authority.
OR! Does the interpretation of the rules vary country to country?

I have googled that question and it appears that the rules are consistent but refereeing interpretation varies. So referees are the problem.
