As they were promoted in 2017 and are still there challenging for Europe I think they have clearly shown that they know what they are doing. Just compare their payroll to Spurs

I don't think you are taking into account where Brighton were before 2017. They are only in that position because they made it to the PL and collect the money that comes with that. Spurs have been a top flight club for a 100 years the fact that you can even compare Brighton to Spurs is a tribute to the work Brighton have done. You can throw all the figures you like at it but the relative size and history of these two clubs speaks for itself.

Another Spurs season to remember OR NOT!!!! Gosh.Spurs going to sleep in the first 15 minute of games to surrender the points. Arsenal,shooting themselves in both feet. Newcastle doing absolutely incredible stuff,although Man U don't impress me even though they may finish 4th. Your framing of this discussion is slightly different to mine. I am praising Brighton for what they have achieved rather than using them to criticise Spurs. I think the two clubs are quite different in both their financial clout and their history. While I can say that Spurs should have paid attention to the defence and midfield creativity and I do. The hard part is finding those players and we are at the wrong end of our peer group. I think it's fair to say that we have the hardest job of the top six simply because we are at the bottom of that group or at best 5th out the 6. Hopefully we will find two quality defenders and a creative midfielder in the summer, that and a progressive manager could transform this squad.

Brighton’s success (if you can even call it that) will be short lived. Next season with European football will expose their squad.

That said, most of their starting 11 gets into the Spurs team atm and that is damning

We’re just about overcoming clubs with lesser resources than us now though.

Leicester have finished above us twice in the last three seasons. West Ham finished above us the season before last. This season we could potentially finish behind both Villa and Brighton and we’ll definitely be finishing behind a Newcastle side (barring an insane run of results) that have so far not truly exploited their new found wealth yet.

I can accept an occasional season of an underdog finishing above us but it’s on the verge of becoming a regular thing now. There could be a changing of the guard soon and we’re looking likeliest to be the ones whose expense it comes at.

This is spot on. They have not 'splashed the cash' particularly yet. Rather, they have been pretty clever in the market, picking up some very talented players and blending them into the existing squad.
They are a season ahead of their plan I reckon.

There are a lot more investors who can afford to put in £1b for a 25% stake than those who can afford to buy ENIC out for £3b and also add another £1b on top.

We have only just managed to put our head above the parapet thanks to Pochettino and the work from Jol and Redknap before him. It's likely we will soon have our head pushed back down unless we make some clever signings of manager and players.

How much of this is players motivated by knowing that unlimited wealth is about to happen and they want to be a part of it. Playing for your place in the latest super team is quite an incentive.

This part is done (and new WHL has been amajor enabler of that) .
Everything now is primarily about ON-PITCH matters
(manager, coaches, squad, the academy, scouting etc) .

ENIC could lower their valuation to get a new owner,

Players too. People like myself and RCL were probably the biggest ‘what the ****’-ers when we saw the Richarlison links, more so at the fee but I’d say well over half this board also at least raised an eyebrow. The Ndombele and Lo Celso signings were horrific even if they came with initial excitement. Sessegnon doesn’t even look like a footballer. Bergwijn was pretty tragic. Porro has had one of the worst starts to a Spurs career I’ve seen, it’s almost Gilberto-esque, he’s certainly a threat going forward but is close to making Perisic look like prime Ashley Cole on the opposite flank with how bad his defending has been.

I just don’t get why or how we’re getting so much wrong. Well, I do to a degree because there’s no plan at the club but even so, we shouldn’t be getting so many big money signings catastrophically incorrect.

I think this misreads the situation. The problem is that the distribution of players skill against value isn't linear. If you look at individual sports ranking lists you usually get wide gaps at the top and then everyone bunches up lower down. The very biggest clubs hoover up the best players and we get stuck with those just outside the elite who are not much better than those below them. Man City's skill edge over us by spending twice as much money on their squad is much bigger than ours over clubs who spend half as much.
If there is an edge to be had in coaching we've tried most things already. If our objective is to supplant one or more of the really big clubs we need more than a slightly better coach.
