His brother confirms that they enquired about purchasing Chelsea but that the two parties were "a long way apart on valuation". Not surprising given that the asking price has been indicated to have started at £2.5 billion.
Chelsea FC for all their recent success, are an illusion as a business. The club are in an antiquated stadium, don't own their own pitch, can't find a site to relocate to, can't finance stadium development, lose money season on season (without Abramovic's annual loan) and are probably worth less than the level of investment over the last 15 years.
The longer that state of affairs continues, the better. Roman can afford to keep them in the Top 6 but as their competitors progress and expand they will become ever more reliant on handouts that eventually will come to an end, probably under a new owner.
