The thing with Poch and our transfer record during his tenure is that it really isn't at all clear who was actually in control of transfers after Paul Mitchell left and Steve Hitchen arrived. Poch dined like royalty off of our windows in 14/15 and 15/16, which gave him what would become the core of his squad. But from 16/17 onwards with the sole exception of Victor Wanyama, our transfer record was catastrophic. So much money wasted on players who simply did nothing to improve us, often becoming significant downgrades on the players they'd been signed to replace (Walker > Aurier and Dembele > Sissoko being two examples). But the bottom line is from 2017-2020 we spent over £280m on players who didn't come within a country mile of justifying their transfer fees, and one way or another all of that was spent on Poch's watch.
In recent times it's arguably under Harry Redknap that we had our better results in the transfer market and maybe Martin Jol. We know from Harry's lips that he did not boss the transfers but he was part of a process. You have to expect that a public company like Spurs would have board control of major purchases but obviously you would hope that the board consulted their team manager. There is always media speculation around football decisions because it's a massive human interest story that they know sells. Fans are constantly speculating, as we can see on here, and now agents are always happy to stir the pot of speculation if not create it in the first place. Speculation makes money. Take into account the fact that any football transfer is to a greater or lesser extent, a shot in the dark. Even the greatest footballers like Messi will not perform at his best in 'any' team as we can see at PSG compared to Barcelona. It's also the case that being a great manager does not mean that you are also a great 'spotter' of potential players. Some on here are already questioning Conte's team choices but as should be apparent it's not just about football ability. All sports that are physical also have a huge 'mind' factor. Why are Spurs in a rut of going behind and then, apparently, waking up? Some will blame the manager others the players and still others will blame the owners. Even if you are on the inside some of these questions would be difficult to answer. From the outside it's just pure speculation.
I'd like our players going out every match determined not to lose.Ours seem to go out with the "lets hope for the best" attitude!
It's like he has some need to prove how smart and talented he is, for some reason. That combined with some stupid element of surprise nonsense. "If I do something really dumb, then they'll never see it coming! "
VINIGOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL! Miss that guy, wish we tried arranging another loan, was a proper solid backup for Kane.
If Felix gets a 3 game ban, including minutes missed in this game, that's £2m of the loan fee up in smoke...
Apparently, he's taken back his girlfriend who cheated on him three times. Aside from this, he made a huge money move to Atletico Madrid under a manager he wasn't suited to, and now he's joined Chelsea for a period of time that will probably make him wish he stayed in Madrid. He basically has a penchant for making terrible life decisions. Seems like the type of guy who'd enjoy corporal punishment...
Has Cucurella had a good game since Romero gave him that " head massage " ? He left the pitch a bit smartish tonight
A proper Chelski defeat I can enjoy. Sure it was great to see them lose 4-0, but that was in a game where I would rather both sides lost. Incidentally, until the financial situation around that club can be better explained, I think I'm going to go back to calling them Chelski.
