I genuinely think something broke in him during the summer of 2017, as the combination of Walker getting tapped-up and Rose mouthing off to The Sun that summer not only undermined his authority, but also seems to have created this siege mentality where he'd only use his most loyal players and everybody outside of that group had to make do with the scraps they may have got
The thing with Poch and our transfer record during his tenure is that it really isn't at all clear who was actually in control of transfers after Paul Mitchell left and Steve Hitchen arrived.
Poch dined like royalty off of our windows in 14/15 and 15/16, which gave him what would become the core of his squad. But from 16/17 onwards with the sole exception of Victor Wanyama, our transfer record was catastrophic. So much money wasted on players who simply did nothing to improve us, often becoming significant downgrades on the players they'd been signed to replace (Walker > Aurier and Dembele > Sissoko being two examples).
But the bottom line is from 2017-2020 we spent over £280m on players who didn't come within a country mile of justifying their transfer fees, and one way or another all of that was spent on Poch's watch.
