I don't like him. I'd tell you to complain, but he's bought all the mods. It's all bent as fck vimto, the whole thing. And he has awful hair.
We've got one and he's been mic'ed up for a game, too: Spent most of his time so far on VAR, as far as I've seen.
For anyone that missed this, which includes me, he's come out. 17-year-old Blackpool player. Good luck to him. I suspect he may have done this because he'd be immediately subject of rumours. His voice is quite stereotypically gay. Still a brave decision. I hope it doesn't backfire. Might prompt others to do the same.
Maybe someone will one day explain what happened to the "loan" as well. I won't hold my breath. Presumably the Saudi's are interested though. Apparently they are wondering whether they can "loan" one and a half billion to a team, which then doesn't have to pay interest or pay it back. This uses the new definition of loan though (don't try looking this new definition up in the dictionary).
Obviously it's not anything 100% or concrete, but it's a genuine thing that's been studied: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_male_speech Maybe I'm just hearing something there because I know he's gay, though. Just to clarify, it's not something that I have any issue with and I hope this doesn't affect his career.
I'd say it's semi-legit. Certainly a reason to create stereotypes from anyway. Old mate of mine came out to us just after we left sixth form so a good 13/14 years ago, three of us more or less simultaneously replied "yeah we figured" and he asked how so, "your voice" was the first thing we all said back . All of us typically speak like stereotypical London football lads and then there's this guy who's basically a slightly less eccentric Alan Carr! I'd also say that whilst I don't know many gay blokes, the ones I do (plus those on the telly) are generally very funny, both with banter and their mannerisms. Great for fashion tips too, lol.
When I was in my early 20's I worked with a bloke who spoke and acted just like Larry Grayson...if anything, he was even more camp. Everyone just presumed he was gay...until he told me he was married with 4 kids. That shook a lot of preconditioning and stereotyping out of me and a few others.
There is a certain degree where it is the case, as the gay contestants on Big Brother who sounded exactly like a character from an early 80s sitcom routinely demonstrated
Mate of mine came out in his 20s , he got every one together at a party and made a big speech , when it was over his mum and dad unfurled a banner which read " we knew all along " . It was a given by all his close friends, pleased to say he is still a good friend
Good luck to the lad. Very brave. I hope he is successful on the pitch. Might encourage a few more players, at a higher level, to come out. If so he will take less stick, even if considered banter. It's what he does in the game that counts, nothing else.
There is the cliche/stereotype "camp" voice thing. I suspect that if a "machine learning" system was let loose on a sufficiently large "training" data set, it might identify "features" in the audio streams that produce an accurate binary classifier for hetero/homo men (don't do it - re the cautionary tale of bone inferred racial profiling ) .
Much as I would love to see the demise (or relegation) of Chelsea, it’s difficult to be pleased about this as it’ll be devastating for the community and employees.
I don't understand this story. Surely all his assets have been seized. If so, what has it to do with Abramovich.
