Did the club make any real attempt to bring in any strikers? I recall some suggestion of Mandzukic and Llorente but was there a major target?
I watched Feyenoord 2 Porto 0. Unlike Bayern,Porto had as many chances to win 2-7 but were trying to hard, hitting the bar several times while almost underneath it.Umpteen shots blocked by the Dutch defence and blasting wide while trying to break the net......but at least Porto gave their all right to the finish. Sometimes your lucks in and sometimes not. I don't think that Bayern will have another game with 7 goals from (?) 9 shots away....or home for that matter.
Martinelli with a brace and Willock making it 3-0 in 22 minutes. I know it's the Europa League, but the 'young guns' + players coming back from injury set-backs are massively outperforming the first team right now. Martinelli looks like he could be a real top player. Beautiful header and sensational curling finish tonight.
I'm sure Spurs fans wouldn't mind winning the EL but as you know, our manager thinks it and League Cup are trivial tournaments and can't be bothered. But we could finish up in the EL if Spurs don't wake themselves up......not that we will go far in the CL if we qualify for the knockouts!
Your real problem seems to be a total lack of creativity in the midfield. Pogba simply hasn't lived up to his price tag and your strikers are all rapid skill merchants who aren't particularly good at threading a pass. I've said it on previous occasions but this United team with prime Mata would solve so many of the problems. In other words, you really should be bidding £100m for Eriksen in January. Please.
The only time the team looks dangerous is on the counter. Players move quickly and the passing is decisive, if not always accurate. When opposition teams sit behind the ball, the team can't even create attempts at goal, never mind score. Players don't look to make runs into space, the player in possession doesn't know where or when to pass. The play is static and moves break down. Eriksen would help, but one player can't solve these problems. How are they being coached? Surely there must be a plan?
You should definitely sell them all for peanuts and replace them with expensive Ligue 1 players, instead.
1999: West Scam field an ineligible player in the Season Killer Cup, have to replay the tie 2012: Bradford field an ineligible player in the FA Cup, expelled from the competition 2019: Saltypool field an ineligible player in the Season Killer Cup, the result stands and they receive a slap on the wrist
Because he knows the most important thing is prize money for the club. Compared to the PL and CL, the money involved in domestic cups and the Europa is peanuts.
Money comes with respect, respect comes from winning things. Why do you think United and Liverpool get such good sponsorship deals, it comes from the names they have earned by being winners of many trophy's not just competing in a select couple. If all the club is interested in is money then they should realise that the vast majority of it comes through sponsorship and TV revenue, the more successful you are (and the more competitions you are in) the more TV time you get, sponsors want TV time and so the attraction goes up.
I realise that, but players play to win trophies and cups. Can you imagine a player saying " I played 10 years (?) with Spurs and won sod all. Our managers and owners only wanted to win money!"
That’s why the good players we have had since I’ve supported Spurs (early 90s) have always moved on I don’t agree with Poch’s view but I can see why he does it tbh
Liverpool and Man Utd get massive sponsorship because of the amount of times they’ve won the League and Champions League not the FA or League Cup. I’m a fan and want to see Spurs win trophies but these days I can appreciate why the manager will prioritise the League over Cups.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says 29-year-old right-back Kyle Walker, who has again been left out of the England squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers later this month, could find his place in his side under threat from Joao Cancelo if the 25-year-old Portugal international continues to impress. please log in to view this image
