Well considering the French team aren't up to much,Arsenal should win the return about 5-1,if nobody gets sent off!

The next two games will define how our season goes. If we lose to United and get dumped out the cup by Rennes, there's pretty much nothing else to play for. The players will just be going through the motions.

If that squad are unwilling to front up after the above
until at least a PL top 4 slot meets St Mohs day, then
wage bills are the least of your problems.

Which is why I'm saying the next two games will make or break our season.

I trust the buildup to the second leg against Dynamo Kyiv will be all about whether or not the Chavs can avoid conceding four...

On the subject of the Chavs, let's see how their charming supporters are celebrating International Women's Day...

    ...yup, exactly as we expected

Well Trophies are not everything. I bet Manure fans enjoyed Wednesdays victory at Le Stade de France far more than either of maureen's cup triumphs.

Sorry that I'm not trawling through the twitter feed, but why is it done on how far the ball traveled and not how long it took to travel that distance and therefore for the player to change his reaction and arm positioning once the ball is struck?

That is the new law, but it comes in next season, not this. I forget, it's either 6 or 8 yards, then if it hits your arm it's a penalty, unless your arm is within a 'normal silhouette'. Whatever that means, I guess FIFA have drawn a 'normal silhouette'.

Late to the party, but on the United Pen:

    1. The decision is defensible. The rules are vague enough that people might reasonably conclude that it either was or wasn't a pen. The use of VAR followed the guidelines for its use.
    2. Not a pen, for me. The two questions I think are, was his arm in a natural position? (Yes) Did he make himself bigger (No, but this is somewhat debatable) and Was it intentional? (No, but, again somewhat debatable). You could just barely make a case, I think, that he spins knowing that it will make him a slightly bigger target (since his arms will naturally go up somewhat when he does so).
    3. They're misusing VAR. USNA sports, which have used it for a couple of decades now, has settled on a formula: only use VAR after one club makes one of a couple of mandated appeals and then only to overturn a clearly wrong decision.

If you use it as a primary decision maker, as it was used here, you change and delay the game without necessarily improving the quality of the officiating. In this case, as it happens, the natural tendency of most officials, that it wasn't a blatant enough offense to award a pen, was a better driver than VAR officials weighing up the question with the game already stopped. In USNA-style use, the official would have called or not called a pen, and VAR would have let either decision stand on appeal, since neither decision is clearly wrong.

Is there one silhouette irrespective of whether the 'offending' defender is running, jumping, standing still?

If so, that's ludicrous. Certainty is good but not if it's at the loss of common sense.

There is a red silhouette and a blue silhouette. They also come in different sizes.
