No Si Que Watt was the manager of Fawlty Towers! Edit Thats what you meant - Apologies slightly slow here
Premier league is the best league in the world but our top teams always get spanked when they play the best from Europe
They've plenty of others. They are used to winning. They don't make many mistakes and they punish you for yours. They know how to manage these types of games. Utd's hope tonight was that they would want to attack (which ironically was more likely with Cavani and Neymar), creating opportunities to counterattack. Instead they just kept Utd at arm's length and forced us to do what we are not very good at - playing through teams when they sit in, don't leave spaces and take the heat out of the game.
Full credit to PSG, to be honest. Due to their resources dwarfing every other club in France, it is no surprise they monopolise all the domestic competitions. But I wasn't sure how good their team would be against top-quality opposition in Europe. Today they came to Old Trafford, up against a Man United team undefeated in 11 games (winning 10), without two of their best attackers, and they totally bossed United. Especially in the second-half. United couldn't get anywhere near them. United fans booing di Maria made no sense to me, but all it did was spur him on. He gave Young a torrid time and ended up getting 2 assists (though could have had more). Veratti and Marquinhos were sublime. As was Dani Alves, who is still playing at a really good level for a 35-year old. Pogba's sending off pretty much epitomised the evening he had.
By all accounts it was regression by Utd to Mourinho days tonight. We cant judge Utd too much yet as there's new coach euphoria like back in the days of Frank O'Farrell who took over and steamrollered everyone until the first defeat came and they fell back. OGS is still untested, yes he's been winning but is he a man for a crisis? I don't think so.
The games against Spurs / PSG / Poool were always going to be the acid tests. They got from PSG over 90 mins what they escaped in 45 mins against Spurs. If PL top 4 is now their route to the CL, then the Poool game may now be must win.
PSG do have form for blowing good 1st leg leads in the Champions League, though. Their 4-0 v Barca can't all be down to having some pillock managing them...
