I wish I had a pound for everytime I have heard a scouser today say the words "ya know " I'd be a millionaire
No doubt a CM would have made a massive difference, but I still think there’s 1 or 2 other areas where the squad has holes and needs improvement if we’re genuinely going to be contenders. It’s likely most of that will come at a heavy cost, unless we strike it lucky with other youth prospects.
Not going to happen again. Spurs are going to have to pay big transfer/wage fees to get players of that calibre to join the fold nowadays. "whatever happens it's been a massive effort from the players staff and fans so let's just enjoy the ride COYS" Indeed. If Nemesis decides to return Dembele/Dier/Wanyama to us fully fit by February, then the run in is going to be VERY interesting indeed ...
I suspect that the points tallies for the PL top 5 (or 6) this season at the halfway point is probably also a record.
I don't necessarily go with '' a quality signing in the summer would have made a difference'' because of the above post. We've lost 5 games this season in the league. Would that one player have prevented those defeats? Unfortunately , our wonderful team has come about at the same time as other top teams- again. When we finished 2nd, we had 86 points- enough to have won the thing in other seasons. It's all part of the Spursy , unlucky, curse.
Liverpool and City have 2 top proven coaches, we don't so that's the difference. Also Leicester's season was a flash in the pan one off season, look where they are now. I've read that Poch has spoken to Utd and has even discussed his first signing. Well ok then, if he goes then we get Conte, a coach who CAN compete with Klopp and Pep.
The fact this "first signing" is a £70m bid for James Madison indicates that Caught Offside made the whole thing up
1 quality signing (CM) probably wouldn’t have. But 1 or 2 others, such as maybe another back up striker (seeing as Llorente clearly isn’t trusted), an improvement on our full backs, and/or maybe a DM too, allowing us more squad rotation and quality in depth, then maybe we’d have that wonderful team that’d be above the other top teams. All these teams including us have good coaches, but the investment into the whole squad, covering all bases is what gives them the edge over us. It’s no coincidence that Liverpool are top. Klopp realised the weak positions and got the players he felt his team needed. This isn’t a rant about not spending money btw, it’s merely just an observation that our quality throughout the squad is slightly short of where it needs to be. Others addressed this with the intention of improving on the previous seasons’ points tally. We stood still.
Spurs are on target to finish this season +10 pts more than 2017-18. A total of 87. Which will be the best PL era performance by Spurs. The current reality is that the Poool are 6 pts ahead of Spurs. Three of those points came by beating Spurs in one game. This season the margins of error for the eventual PL champions will be very fine. Spurs have had their big lesson with the Wolves game. Citeh have had theirs too. Time will tell on the Poool.
Once again people are forgetting Saltypool didn't address their CM problems in the summer: they signed Keita two summers ago, yet because of some brilliant oversight by their transfer committee paid over his release clause in order to sign him a year later than when the cheque had cleared, so this Narrative of "Well they did this in the summer" is completely inaccurate And also ignores how they'll be midtable next season when VAR takes away half their goals when offsides and dives in the penalty area are correctly ruled out by officials
That's a lot of dosh to spend for maybe. Supposedly, this season it is our DM position that has let us down - but who could predict 3 players injured long term at the same time? As for back up striker- How's Morata doing? I hear Sarri is complaing they haven't got a decent striker.
One thing the siGn suM pLaYuhZ mob on Twitter seem oblivious about is how Poch's done a fine job in rejuvenating players to make them important parts of the team Think back to when he first took over and most of us thought Dembele's time at the club was coming to an end because of his injury problems and he was an obstacle for Bentaleb to displace, but instead Dembele became a key component of our side for several seasons while Bentaleb has been at Schalke for three seasons but still hasn't established himself in the team Similar can be said for Sissoko, who mainly served as ****posting material for Reddit and Twitter users just three months ago yet now he's proven to be an invaluable member of the first team, just like Lamela went from being the lightning rod for everyone who wants to moan and needs to find one single player to blame for everything wrong with the team to a key component of the squad with a knack for scoring important goals
This quote i pulled from the bbc got me yesterday.... "If Chelsea don't sign someone with a bit of creative flair or who can actually kick a ball some time soon, we can say goodbye to top 4" Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Pulisic etc etc.
Surely what they need more than anything else is an accountant with creative flair? Although they may be a little preoccupied with filing receipts when the Chavs realise they can't loan out dozens of players they've been hoarding for years out every season...
You don't honestly think the powers that be will put any real teeth behind punishments for this new rule do you? It'll be business as usual but they'll have to play with a squad of 24 for the CL or something dumb like that
