p.s. Do you remember the days when fans turned up with rattles? I can still see Spurs fans on the pitch directing "Glory,glory,...….."
European nights were very special in those days. Not the same now!
Rattles and Rosettes, kids being lifted down to the front too.

Man U have reportedly offered £40 mill for Poch to be their next manager, can only see it as a mistake if he accepts.

I wonder if a few on here wouldn't mind that. Gazza gets promoted and we get extra funds for the new Modric - whoever that is

Who gets the 40 mil? ….and if he's a great manager, shouldn't it be 100 mil.....or more? I guess managers are not as important as players?

Who remembers the communal singing at the final?
Yes, I do. Loved it. Still have the song sheet from the Double final in scrapbook. Remember the chap who led & conducted the singing from a podium on the pitch? He done it for years. Nearly everyone joined in back in the day & Abide With Me still gives me goosebumps. I'm so glad that has survived, there is something moving & special when sung at a final.

Yep. We all had customized rattles painted in very smart navy blue with white lettering. The sound when all twirled as one after a goal was magnificent. I've got photos with said rattle taken the night we won the Double which is very nostalgic!
As we have discussed before Smithy, those European nights were so very special with the atmosphere, the Angels, & Glory, Glory Hallelujah ringing round so loud. As only the winners of the League & FA Cup were eligible it made it harder & therefore more special to qualify for the tournaments. Happy Days! (I feel so sorry for the youngsters who are longing to win something. We won so many things in our youth).

Was it all in black and white though?

I watched the WBA v Villa game tonight as Mrs B was beering it up on a works do.

Jack Grealish report:

£40m? <laugh>

He was anonymous for nearly the whole match. Admittedly, he wasn't helped by playing as a second striker, directly behind Tammy Abrahams in the first half. Jack's not a forward and I'm not sure that Abrahams is a footballer. If we bid £25m each for those 2, then based on last night, we want our bumps feeling.

He was only fractionally better in the second half playing deeper. He won't learn anything useful in The Championship with that Villa team. Abraham and Bolasie aren't technically good enough to get the best out of his talents. I doubt that we'd be interested at any price that Villa would accept..."Move along now please!"

In those days,Maggie, we tried to win everything unlike today when cup games are cast aside just to be in the top 4 of the PL. CL excluded of course...…!?

I love reading about the Glory Glory Years - Maggie and Smithy give us wonderful insights into our greatest era.

I can just about remember then end of the sixties (born in 64) which means that I missed out on our most successful decade. Double winners, 2 further FA Cups and the Cup winners cup and 10 top 10 league finishes. Our average league finish was 4th

The subsequent decades have seen us have and good and bad times;
The 70s we won 2 league cups and a UEFA cup 3 top 10s, 1 relegation, 1 promotion, and an average league finish of 12th
The 80s 2 FA cups, 1 UEFA, 6 top 10s and ave position of 7th
The 90s 1 FA cup 1 League Cup 5 top 10s ave 8th
The 00s 1 league cup 5 top 10s ave 11th

So that brings us to the current decade where we have won no trophies (so far) for the first time since the 40s, we have however achieved 9 successive top 10 finishes all of them inside the top 6 which is the best run of league finishes in the clubs history. This is to a certain extent where the game has changed. In the 'pre premier league era' the Cups appeared to be more important to the clubs, whereas now they remain important to fans, but the clubs themselves strive for the prestige of qualifying for the champions league, and finishing top 4 has become a greater priority.

I also recall that when we had a reputation as a 'cup team' the experts would always roll out the old cliche that anyone can win a cup as it is just winning a six matches the 'really' good teams are consistent and challenge in the league. We are now a really good team (as we were in the 60s) our consistent league finishes ave 4th this decade matches that of the sixties sides, but we lack the silverware that they won to back that up.

This is the best Tottenham Hotspur team since the 60s, I am in no doubt about that, we have had many great players in the years in between, and I loved seeing the likes of Mullery, Perryman, Roberts, Mabbutt and Ledley holding aloft trophies and I would love to see Hugo doing the same in 2019, but even if he doesn't this side will still be a great Spurs team.

I'd say a missed opportunity thanks to Levy and his lack of ambition on the pitch

2 league cups under his tenure but magnificent progress off it. I say like all great business men...this one needs to sell up once he sniffs a healthy profit and dissapear along with tight fisted Lewis.
