The following teams are now unable to finish above of us

    Crystal Palace
    Stoke
    West Brom

Remember back in the Sugar era when we didn't have to worry about the threat of relegation after the first week of March? No, me neither...

This afternoon, Mike Riley, head of PGMOL is meeting with Saint Pep The Unblemished to guarantee that no Citeh player is ever touched again by an opposition player. This is a national disgrace, even if no Citeh player ever committed a foul, ever. Either they speak to all managers or none at all.

What Riley should have done, is send these to clips to Pep and tell him to shut his hypocritical trap.....

  5. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes he is the best man to take the club forward, and has told his coaching staff that he will not step down this summer. ......

Not much of an example, Luiz goes down quicker than Bradys drawers.

I'll grant you that. I'd happily take out a second mortgage to stamp on Luiz's genital area for 30 seconds. However, he's got ongoing knee problems from 'Mad Dog' Aguero's assault during Pep's management. I daresay, that it was probably earned 20 times over but it's indicative that every team has at least one player that will hurt an opponent, dive to get a penalty, etc. etc.

The referees should have told Pep that and then told him to **** off...publicly. It's like they've got Stockholm syndrome. Having been beaten bloody by Sir Ferguson for years, they can't wait for someone else to tell them how to referee...and they ****ing love it.

Seriously? Is that a thing? I hadn't heard that was happening - it is indeed a complete disgrace. Should be discussed on certain talk-related radio stations but will probably not be mentioned as there won't be any time with all this discussion of Spurs bottling it / Poch out / must win trophies.

There are ongoing rumours about the Arsenal dressing room being up in arms about their unbalanced wage structure.
The massive wages tha Ozil, Aubameyang and Mikhitaryan have recently signed up for have pissed off those on far less, apparently.
It's something that we need to keep an eye on as we attempt to get new contracts signed and bring in players in the summer.

I give it an hour before the weekly "Spurs should pay Alderweireld what Los Ladrones pay Ramos" story pops up on NewsNow...

Jamie Redknapp says we should pay Toby £180k per week.....that should go down well with Harry, Hugo, Christian Eriksen...well everybody, really.

Jamie Redknapp's an idiot. We pay people what we can afford to pay.
As you point out, it's not just about one player. Bump one man's wages and we have to do it for everyone else.
If we lose players because of it, then we'll have to replace them. It's far easier than losing the club to poor management.

Would I lie to you?.......Actually, the less said on that front, the better.

As it happens Pep didn't attend the meeting but other Citeh officials did his whining for him...still all kinds of wrong, though.

It's an impossible conundrum in my view.
Sticking to a wages structure is a laudable aim, but the more successful you become on and off the field, the harder it is to achieve.
Wage inflation seems to be a natural consequence of success.
And the temptation to make exceptions for exceptional players can be impossible to resist. What happens if Kane demands sky high wages?

    You mean When, not if.

To be fair to him though, Kane, so far, has shown a lot more loyalty to Spurs than most players would these days. Think you will keep hold of him for at least one more season.

Alli on the other hand.....I think he will go this summer. Not that that would be too terrible right now, he has been pretty lacklustre this season compared to last year.
Also players like Eriksen and Lloris (ie non English players, who are more likely to go abroad) will start having their agents whispering in their ears like ****ing Worm Tongue.

The increase in revenue you get from your new stadium really needs to ALL go towards beefing up your wage budget if you want to hang on to these guys.

(Also, winning something would help :p)

It's really not that difficult. Tottenham are a business. We are subject to the commercial realities of our situation and the PL rule regarding spending on wages.

Right now, we have real growth in commercial and matchday income, which means that we can loosen the purse strings a bit more and there's ongoing stories of negotiations with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and a few others. However, we've also taken on borrowing of £400m to build a stadium, so burning 70%+ of income on wages isn't going to happen.

Players will leave, probably at a rate of one per season. Toby's almost certainly next. We'll get a good transfer fee and re-invest that money on a younger player who will accept about a third to a half of what Toby wants. It's what allowed us to spend £38m on Davinson Sanchez, having sold Kyle Walker for the same wage discrepancy. Spurs income will improve our position relative to most clubs but against 4 or 5 across Europe, we're always going to be up against it. The answer isn't going to be matching those wages under our current owners. Even Abramovic has stopped that game. Arsenal are mugs for paying Ozil what they are.

It sounds like a plan, but it relies on you doing great transfer business to replace star players with adequate substitutes.
In the last few years, the club has done some exceptional business in bringing in players like All , Eriksen, Dembele, Vertongen , Davies and Alderweireld for little money (relatively) whilst bigger purchases like Son and Sanchez have not broken the bank and have been successful. Added to that your best player cost nothing! It's hard to believe some of these players escaped the attentions of clubs with deeper pockets.
It will be difficult to maintain that level of success in the transfer market - especially when the selling clubs know you have money to spend.
