Bournemouth! Awful, awful, awful from Courtois. An awkward ball his defense are just about prepared for he flails at, and brushes just enough to send Bournemouth’s way. The effort to brush it took him far away from his line, making for an easy header. Oh, that’s funny. Two Bournemouth players went for the easy header with the goal gaping and knocked into each other, turning what should have been a bullet into a dribbler. But there was no keeper there. Incidentally, there was some very successful time-wasting from Bournemouth right before the goal. Chelsea looked likely to score and two players rolled around on the pitch for a while to take away their momentum. West Brom did it successfully against us as well. The funny thing is Chelsea played well and looked sharp. But Bournemouth didn’t make a single big mistake defending, and Chelsea’s last ball let them down. All that Russian oil money can’t keep them from losing at home to a team with a 9,000 seater. What an advertisement for the PL.
You're not special any more. We might not have scored against the most negative side to come to the Lane in years if we'd had 2 more hours but our manager isn't getting sacked in the morning. **** off Mourinho!
Get in! Surely Jose's got to go now? 3 points off the relegation zone after 15 games Think the fans have finally turned on him now too.
I'm begrudgingly starting to like Pardew. First time I've seen the major flaw of video technology brought up on TV and with such an excellent example. Good punditry, it's a bit of a shame he's doing well with Palace, could do with someone straight talking on Sky Sports with Neville gone.
Jose: "We didn't deserve to lose. Our opponent - in the period that they thought only of defence - managed to get a goal and there was a clear mistake from the referee "I think it is a clear handball and penalty with the score at 0-0. In the first half we were not aggressive enough, in the second half we arrived in dangerous positions a lot of time with a lot of crosses from the right hand side from Ivanovic. "They played in a way that some call intelligent, some say is not fair play. They were taking time, calling for the medical department and drinking water like it is basketball time out." I like the "We" from a man who is clearly standing on his own with no allies whatsoever.
The debate over whether Bournemouth's goal was offside...even the tv pictures could not prove it one way or the other. Pardew said that it was An example of where the use of technology argument falls down.
Basically it wasn't really clear, some angles he looked on, some he looked off. Ultimately he was just offside but it took awhile to figure out and that was his point, it would be a long stoppage to have during a game. Also there's subjective ones like the handball decision where probably the best answer you can give is "sometimes they get given". I was just pleased that someone raised the problems I have with video technology. Normally TV pundits just whitewash it and act like it's an obvious decision to bring in video replays for refs.
Thanks for letting me know. My view on video technology though is that the "video ref" gets a certain amount of time to decide. If he can't decide in, say, 15 seconds, the incident is probably not clear anyway, so then the original decision stands or ref on the field decides. I would also back that up by allowing for retrospective action against cheats, for example by a panel sitting Monday morning.
Mourinho moaning about gamesmanship! He'll be criticising managers for giving crappy, self-serving post-match interviews next.
That may be the best plan I’ve heard. The NFL refs are allowed to take for-*-ever-and they still screw up. The retrospective punishment may be the thing which most improves football. Red card players for cheating retrospectively and it will happen much less often.
