That'll be their PL bonus money spent and all they've got for it is players they already had last season. I get the feeling they won't be taking the Europa League very seriously next season. Glad we didn't go for him, he's great at what he does but I think he still has a long way to go to be a top player.
They've got a strong youth system and a fairly small squad of senior players, so I expect a blend of journeymen and kids for the group stage, at least. It could well be enough to get them through, depending on the luck of the draw. I think they'll qualify if they get an average one or worse.
I doubt he'd join on loan without some sort of guarantee of game time, to be honest. Targett's already being eyed up for a transfer though, so he might push Bertrand for his place.
A tad disingenuous of Mourinho to say that he only sold Lukaku because he wasn't willing to fight for his place. I don 't imagine that the signing of Costa and the resigning of Drogba, at age 36! exactly filled him with confidence about his future prospects at Chavski!..
ravel morrison arrested for assaulting 2 women; andy carroll injured and is out for at least 4 months; public row between owner and manager via radio interviews...has a pre season evr been this **** before? and whats the betting we make them feel better come august 16th
It does seem the accepted wisdom that the worse the preseason the better the start. They can't buy a win and we are unbeaten. Yep, they are guaranteed winners.
West Ham's Ravel Morrison has continued his delightful record of criminal activity, having been charged with assaults on two women in Manchester. He was arrested outside of a bar at 3.20am on Sunday morning and is accused of two counts of common assault, having had two separate run ins with the same pair of ladies on the same evening. Stay classy!
Just looked at a thread on the Chavs board, and fell about laughing, they are complaining about Lukaku's price then BLAMING united for inflating the market by paying so much for Shaw,no mention that the no so special one, started it all off in his first spell at Chelsea, paying silly money to win the P/L
Moron somehow wasn't aware that Chelsea signed Diego Costa for £32m a few days after Man Utd signed Shaw. I'm going to make a wild guess and say Costa's wages are quite a bit higher than Shaw's, too...
why are they complaining? Thats a great fee for them imo. Everton overpaid, good player and young, but £28m? They'll get a profit if they sell him on in 3 years though i suppose
Playing half the games for Saints is better than not playing many for Villa I think he'll probably start the season but Targett phased in and they'll be around about 19 games each by the end of the season. However some other Saints fans (probably more ITK than me) think Targett will start and Bertrand will play a few games here and there.
28 million for a player with Lukaku's record and potential doesn't seem out of line to me, especially when he'll be staying in the same system he thrived in. I would have taken him for Spurs for that price, even though I'm not sure he'd fit into the new system all that well. Oh, well. Everton's gain is Chelsea's loss, and I'd much rather see Everton do well and Chelsea not so well.
Mourinho seems to have some sort of problem with strikers. If Costa gets injured, he's left with Torres, who looks shot. And a 36yr old Drogba, who I think will be good for cameos, but not much else. As for Lukaku, I like him - he scores goals! And that's what it's all about for any striker.
Hull drew 0-0 in Slovakia in their first Europa League tie. Huddlestone missed a penalty and hit the bar from the rebound. Still only needs them leaving a win in the home leg to progress, but it's a precarious position to be in, as a score draw puts them out.
