You aren't taking context into account.
There will always be some team in the league that overachieves. It is total illogical nonsense to use that as a justification i.e. Southampton fluked one season 5 places higher than their fees and wages imply, therefore we should be able to come 5 places higher. Well next season Southampton will fall away. Like Swansea did before them. And Newcastle did before them. But there will be some other team who makes a great start to the season and then they will be the ones morons will be saying "but they're above us after 6 games and spent less than us OMG how is it possible!?"
This has been a terrible season for us. Yes some of it down to Rodgers but not all. The loss of Suarez (gone as soon as he bit at the World Cup), the injuries to Sturridge (starting with England), the retirement of Gerrard (unavoidable but Rodgers has handled the transfer of captaincy to Henderson as well as any manager could), buying young players who will take some time to settle, etc. And even still we are in 5th place, with the 5th most expensive squad and 5th highest wage bill.
If you can have an absolute ****ing shocker and still hit par, then it's not the end of the world. This isn't meant to excuse any [HASHTAG]#legit[/HASHTAG] criticisms of Rodgers, just provide some perspective.
If you want to see what a bad manager really looks like, gaze across Stanley Park. Everton have the 7th most expensive squad, made their biggest individual signing in the history of their existence, outspent us by £9m in net terms, and are sat not 1 or 2 places below us like their investment suggests, but 6 places (17 points). And that's even with us being **** FFS!
