It was a penalty according to the laws of the game. Contact doesn't even need to be made. A foul can be awarded for the intent.

Its spelled out very clearly in FIFA rules of the game. Along with pictures for those confused about the offside rule too.

Yet you keep ignoring the question I put to you <laugh>

You call that a rant <laugh>

Oh UIR, you dont half talk bollocks at times. Anyway if you dont mind, we're playing in Europe tonight. You'll get to see how exciting that is at the weeknd
Who cares! Utd are cheating ****tards, always have been! They just have to do it on the pitch and more often now since Fergie retired

There we go. Exactly what Bod would say <laugh> :bandit:

<laugh>

You're getting worse with every passing day UIR.

You are just either acting the twat or are as thick as an Eskimos overcoat, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt its the former.<ok>

Maybe you mean the claims made by the person who committed the foul?

I would take such claims with a pinch of salt. He wouldn't be the first person to make something up. If there was any truth in it I would think the FA would have an interest or at least comment on it.

Has anyone told the FA Rooney has admitted diving. What better way to look tough on it than punishing a high profile England player?

Jeezus, someone asked you earlier where Rooney denied that he made the apology and as you know he hasn't denied it, so that leaves us to either believe or disbelieve the keeper, what reason has he got to lie?

Over to you, I'm off to watch the game.<ok>

They never did anything when he admitted diving against Slovenia, or when he admitted diving in the CL a few years back, so why would they now? If a Man Hoof player comes up against an 'independent' FA inquiry they do **** all anyway.

It didnt warrant a response and it doesnt now but seeing as I have already started...

Its in no way the same thing. At all.

With how close the keeper was to Rooney, it's exactly the same. The keeper was never going to touch Rooney, Rooney could have continued his normal stride without risking a hair and then he scored have scored without having to rob a lower ranked side.

Only thing that looks worse than Rooney cheating is your attempted defence of him <laugh>

True. No United player has ever been banned. <ok>

Why would he?

And are you even sure the German guy would have understood what he was saying?

It was Rooney after all <whistle>

Basically the utd captain must be a liar then?

Why would he? Simple manners of course.... If say sorry bout that and all in commiseration for a nobody I earn more in a week that he'd earn in a year for ruining his dreams

Why not?

It's only unrealistic if you are an advocate of the "win at any cost" philosophy- which is what we've been debating.
Having said that, I do think this is a bit different- it's instinctive for a goalkeeper who fumbles the ball to try and scoop it away before it goes over the line. Having failed to do that, Carroll was probably amazed that the officials missed it, and I don't really expect him to go running half the length of the pitch to protest.
Seeing that you've got away with something isn't quite the same as deliberately setting out to con the officials.

Would you say the "win at all costs" also applies to football tactics? Although I don't like or accept cheating, I find the idea of teams playing anti-football just to avoid relegation equally (if not more) against the spirit of the game. It's one of the reasons I like watching La Liga. A team can be fighting relegation but they will go out to PLAY football, not sit deep and defend for their lives hitting long balls to relieve pressure momentarily (cue United jibe!) and you won't hear fans cheering their defenders as they clear the ball into row Z. Ofcourse teams there don't want to get relegated, but to them the sport, the game, sticking to a footballing philosophy, is far more important to them and if they aren't good enough so be it - they get relegated and earn their place back again. The same applies for teams going for European places. You won't see a Big Sam Bolton type team qualifying for the Europa league from there. I think in many ways, the "win at all costs" mentality is similar for cheating as it is for club tactics, and in particular the one similarity in this country is both are driven by money. I don't want to bang on about La Liga or continental football, but at least for them, the culture of diving is based on gaining one-upmanship, an art in itself and really is seen as a 'positive' part of the game (rightly or wrongly I'm not condoning that thinking), rather than because of other influences which affect their overall approach to football.
