  • Premier League

  • Champions League

  • FA Cup

  • League Cup

  • As much as Everton and Spurs!

Thats great and what not but we are talking about Ronaldo the best player in the world and not just a very good player. I have no doubt Ronaldo would have been a top player. What I am saying is that him becoming not just a top player but the best player in the world and one of the all time greats was largely in part to United.

Like I said. Talent can only take you so far. Guidence, coaching and everything around you can have a huge impact on how a players career turns out.

Mikey won it, so does the UIR rule apply to LFC producing the worlds best player?

Or will your bitterness tell you that it was easy to win it back then etc.<whistle>

At the time anyone could see Owen was a world class player. Liverpool played a major part in the player he was.

I also think he won a slightly different award. Bedore it merged. Ronaldo won fifa poty award in 2008 and the combined Fifa ballon d'or this time. Not that its important tbh.

Would you say Liverpool had no impact on Owens career? Or Gerrards?

Stop moving the goalposts.

Of course LFC had an influence on their careers, but as with Ronaldo at utd they already had talent, they just needed an outlet to show it off.

But it won't stop someone from a better outlet putting them on the right path.

Just as Real put him on a bigger and better path in Spain.

Theres probably a few clubs that would have helped an 18 year old Ronaldo realise his full potential. Obviously United. Barcelona would be another and maybe Bayern.

How much did we pay for Owen and Gerrard again? How old were they when they joined?

You paid £12.6m for C.Ronaldo. That's equivalent to about £40m in today's markets but yeah, you developed him. That's like us claiming we made Torres or Suarez! You'll be claiming you produced Rooney next <doh>

In Ronaldo and Messi documentaries they say whenever they were young and played they were gonna be world class, you don't say that about many kids.

If Barca didn't pay the money, any other rich side would of, talent like that wouldn't of gone unnoticed.

Apart from by Phil Thompson and LFC who had the option to buy Ronaldo for £8m but turned him down. Or CFC who were signing up Duff for £17m instead.

BTW on the general point of his cost, we bought Ronaldo for £12m - a year after we bought Rio for £30m and a year before we bought Rooney for a similar amount. And the very year Barca bought Ronaldinho for £30m and Real bought Beckham for £26m. Just to put his price in context. And just to consolidate the point, a year later when LFC buying Djibril Cisse for £14m. To say that a price tag of £12m (also bearing in mind United always pay a premium for players) in any way would suggest he was always going to be the player he became is the most desperate clutching at straws in this whole debate. And I use the word debate in loosest possible sense as it doesnt even deserve that much credit.

United and Fergie had a massive influence on the player Ronaldo became. To deny that is quite frankly pissing in the wind :)

The point isn't that utd had an influence on him, the point was UIR saying that he would not have been the player he is today if he'd have ended up at a different club.

I am guessing you are unfamiliar with the relationship Fergie had with Ronaldo at United.

So you honestly think that he never had similar relationships with all the young players that weren't local to Manchester or the northwest, that missed their families etc, got homesick etc?

If he did treat the young Ronaldo any differently he was out of order

Out of order <laugh>

What?

So he was a father figure to little Ronnie but a bad tempered old twat to the other youth players?

He will treat each player as an individual and judge how much of his help they need or deserve. He was the greatest manager the game has seen not a youth worker ffs.
