Mata is no value in terms of real $ to Utd other than his actual value.

that's a fair point and something that is sadly happening in all sports.

the commercial side of things is just as important as what is happening on the pitch. something we have been slow at, for feck knows how long <laugh>

still rather Mata though personally, hes a player that excites me, as you never know what the little ****er is going to do next, bit like Silva, and why some had a lot of time for Luis Garcia when we had him, could just produce those moments of brilliance.

He was thrown out of Chelsea as surplus to requirements. If he has ambition then that surely means regular first team, if he can't get that at utd who are struggling, then he could see this as his career spiralling down. He therefore needs to arrest it before his name is forgotten.

mourinho said he could stay... utd offered huge moeny and cheslea laughed... they have declared 20mil profit this year post transfers...

If mata wantd to stay i doubt moyes would have lumped on so much on his own...

the thing is cheslea = bench and medals. utd = not CL, but likely to be.. not looking like as much medals but some. now he is moving to potential somewhere that medals are not onthe table so i said sanchez wanted to be the big fish... mata i think wants to be the main man somehwhere and he doesn't care where = couldn've stayed in valencia...

compare mata to oscar... oscar is tracking back into cheslea midfield. he is energetic and has some pace plus the goals. cheslea don't miss mata... i reckon utd might... but only utd van gaal gets the type of player he wants. (another diamaria)

It won't happen, but would people take Mata in January? If so, what price?

I'd take him for up to, say, 20 million.

for 20mil..... now this is a different question.

while i suspect his motvies and feel he ought to dig in and prove himself... even downing did this <laugh>.... comparing markovic for 20mil to mata is like comparing a baby giraffe to a fully grown wildebeast.

while markoivc still needs to learn out to walk. mata has the horns and game today... of course i'd take him... i'm desperate here... i'd rather a lion like dimaria or oscar.

i reckon most would say yes, problem is who we will be dealing with for starters lol, would it be a question of utd need to sell to buy? assuming we are all still playing ****e by this time, in which case if we are the only club interested(unlikely! sadly) could a deal happen, as it would suit both parties ie ffp rules bollocks and utd getting someone better in to suit their style.

too many ifs for it to happen though sadly.

That's probably the first time Mata has been compared to a wildebeast! <laugh>

How high would you be prepared to go for him though?

I said it won't happen; I sincerely doubt United would sell to us, unless it was absolutely silly money and/or they were really, really desperate to get rid.

hmmmmmm

i thought about that too.

baby giraffe is markovic... flopping about trying to stand
I chose wildebeast cos they have those big horns and can defend themselves.
I could have said leopard, hides up a tree when the real beast come calling.
di maria is more of a cheetah. fast as hell but light

Players like messi and ronaldo are actually the lions, kings of the beasts etc etc.. if i was carrying this on.

now..............

price....

look I think he's better than what we have but for me if he's running out of utd he's not worth what they paid period. pace and tracking are a real issue. top top clubs want this. I feel 20 in this market is a good good price... maybe 25? I'd not pay 30.

again to think mata v lallana 25mil.. no contest but that is due to us grossly over paying.

"again to think mata v lallana 25mil.. no contest but that is due to us grossly over paying."

transfer fee maybe, bet there is huge dif in wages though.

It is (should have been) obvious that both LFC and United overpaid for their buys.

LFC because the sellers knew that the club was awash with Suarez money.

United because the sellers knew they were desperate.

Mata was a proven scoring midfielder, already playing for a big club so less likely to be phased by joining another.

Lallana had one good season with a smaller club, and now may suffer from "the fish in a bigger pond syndrome".

Mata would be a great addition to our midfield. It would add variety especially the short penetrating passes and creativity in addition to the long passes from Gerrard.

if it were all just shirt sales gerrard would not be our target to be dropped on his forum.

I think you have this wrong. I would say one of the reasons Gerrard does play so much is because of the forcefield of revenue around him. He is such an icon that even his manager seems to go bleary eyed.

i know that and made a similar sort of comment on another thread.

there could be some good deals to have in jan if we are all still playing ****e by then and have to sell to buy first type thing.

i dont think we would be the only club interested sadly, and then it will be a no brainer for utd sadly, hope i am wrong, as i reckon it would give the players and crowd a much needed boost.

Again though, Oscar tracks back. Lallana tracks back even more. That was one of the key things for us last season. Yes Lallana did nice tricks and skill but he ran miles, tracked back and had a very high interception rate. Someone will probably say 'well he's not doing that for Liverpool'. To answer that you would have to ask his current manager why that is and if he has been told not to or if it just because he is being played in a much more rigid role now.

For Saints Lallana was often picking the ball up in Saints' half.

It's not just the tracking back either, Oscar closes down high up the pitch, makes interceptions and forces errors. Mata doesn't provide that hence why he was benched by Jose and then sold. Our midfield already has a luxury player in Hazard and Jose didn't want 2. Whoever has Mata has to accept that, in the same way City do with Silva.

No I don't this forum now has a majority wanting him out of team for at least majority of games

The point was if we cared about shirt sales we not want him gone. We want to win!

It's not a fair point at all. Why wouldn't Mata shirt sales and merchandise be any less??? Don't get that at all. And it has no bearing on his selection or sale. If that was the case we'd have tied a concrete tub to Valencia and dumped him off Salford quays 3 years ago.

I won't go into Mata's price as I don't want him sold. **** the tracking back, he's creative midfielder, an attacking threat and goal scorer. But if you can find a world class player at 26 for under £30m anywhere in the world, then I'd like to know about him. And so would Rodgers btw.

well look.

mata doesn't track back well and he hasn't the pace to play in a tight game if utd want to have just 3/4 up and the rest conservative.

a player like diamaria is what van gaal wants, real pace. he wants two holding midfielders and to accomodate rooney probably as AM really. tracking back all over the place when he is actually bothered.

erog that leaves three slots and dimaira is one, RvP is the other and mata hasn't the pace to play the third.

Simple really.

also if mata spits the dummy for ebing on the bench it shows something about attitude unfortunately.

If you want to play a 4-2-3-1 or something and don't have a rooney then yeah mata as no 10 makes perfect sense.

I am sure LVG still wants to play 3 at the back, but he realised very quickly he doesn't have the players to do that yet, but he will eventually. As it is, he's playing 4 at the back but recently we've played a diamond with 2 up top. There's no reason why Mata can't play there. What scuppered that was Fellaini coming on against West Brom and showing a bit of form. LVG decided to stick with him indefinitely. Last Saturday showed that was wrong. Herrera, Blind, Mata, Di Maria, Rooney and RVP can all be accommodated.

If he does he is wasting his time he got 0-0 in World Cup that way but in the real world having 3 cbs means with one forward sides will simply dominate midfield and put you to sword

Felliani has a bad rap with utd fans but as a dm and not a donkey target ban he is a lot better.... When utd realise it's mata or Rooney they'll be better

IMO utds bets team is 4-3-3 with Rooney as an advanced cm with dimaria left side... You need a fast right side forward now and a good cb to improve Felliani and blind/Herrera are good enough to get to top 4 but not win league but cbs ain't up to it

People better get real about utd. They are one good transfer from 4th place

And not not all can be accommodated as you are compromising to do so... Just buy the right side forward and let mata go of he wants to run from the Rooney challenge
