I once briefly went out with this one girl at uni. She was a bit posh. She had a strange tramp stamp which consisted of a few names followed by the latin phrase requiescat in pace, roughly meaning 'rest in peace'. Unfortunately, the requiescat part was spelt incorrectly as requieskat!
I first noticed this during the popular activity where a man normally notices a tramp stamp, given adequate lighting and, especially, if he is desperate to keep the 'wolf from the door', as it were.
Anyway, afterwards (ahem!) I brought the fact to her attention. She was a touch patronising (pseudo-, anyway) and tried to laugh it off by saying that it was Latin to say 'may they rest in peace' and it was supposed to be spelt that way. She also added that I wouldn't know that, as I probably wasn't taught Latin in my non-public-school education (here she was 100% correct).
I replied that in that case there were two spelling mistakes in the first word as the 'k' should have been a 'c' and the latinate ending '-t' means 'he/she/it', whereas if it was supposed to mean 'they' then the ending should be '-nt', so it would read 'requiescant in pace'. She, surprisingly, wasn't as impressed as I thought she'd be. I remember making my excuses and leaving her room.
Needless to say I had the last laugh. I dumped her a few days later, as she did something else which was even more annoying. She was a bit of a bitch, truth be told. Hot as hell, though, and a right goer!![]()
