That is a surprise, though at 90 I guess can happen any time. Like him or loath him, having seen him perform he is one of the outstanding stand up comedians and was a very funny man. RIP Doddy.
Proper old school comedian from the era before the Michael McIntyre/Marcus Brigstocke brigade invaded it.
Surely he'll have found a way of taking it with him. My old man loved Ken Dodd. He first saw him when he was in the army in the 50's. I've seen doddy more times than I can remember. Summer season in Brid and we'd go half a dozen times. Thing of Doddy and I just think of my old man crying with laughter. RIP Ken Dodd
My folks went to watch Ken Dodd many years ago. The show ran into the early hours of the morning, I think large parts of the audience ended up drinking with him in the dressing room. They absolutely loved it and talked about it for years and years describing him as amiable and very funny. Man of the people. RIP Doddy
RIP Ken Dodd We saw him a few years back. Came on stage at half 7. Couple of short breaks for costume changes before he left the stage at half 10 for the intermission. Came back on around 15 minutes later & did another 2 hours. Didn’t repeat the same joke. Comedy Legend.
Good job Brid is a small place. You could get home by walking as no transport was available by the time you got out. Remember my old man seeing him in the Palladium. Best part of fifty years ago and there was a Yank sat next to him. In tears of laughter. Kept saying to my dad "" Why haven't we heard of this bloke in America?"
And he sold over 100million records. More than Oasis. Only the Beatles outsold him in the 1960s in this country and Tears was the third biggest selling single of the decade behind She Loves You and I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Quite an achievement in addition to being a great comedian.
Two of his best ad libs... Yes I had a trial for Liverpool, passed with flying colours but didn't get picked..................I couldn't spit far enough. And at the height of his problems with the tax people, 'When I started in show bix income tax was tuppence in the pound.........I thought it still was'. Class act, alongside Tommy Cooper, two absolute legends of the comedy world.
Initially remember him from the old ‘Workers Playtime’ lunchtime shows on the BBC Light Programme in the fifties, I always liked him very much. RIP Ken Dodd.
A Turkish heiress and bride-to-be has been killed in a plane crash, along with seven of her friends, as they returned from her hen weekend in Dubai. Horrific. please log in to view this image
'When I started in show bix income tax was tuppence in the pound.........I thought it still was'.
I'm the same, to be fair. If I had 50p for each time I failed my maths exam, I'd have £7.30.
Just saw this joke of his in the paper. - 'You think you can get away, but you can't. I'll follow you home and I'll shout jokes through your letterbox' - when he was still going strong at a show as it approached midnight.
When he came back on, must have been nearly 11 he brought a kids pack up box on with him, took a sandwich out, looked across the audience & just said “you not brought anything?” Simple, daft & funny. We had planned to eat afterwards but everywhere was shut when we got out.
My shows are educational. A bloke got up and walked out the other night muttering "Well, that taught me a lesson".
