Man oh man.....gutted...one of the nicest fella's both on and off the field. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
<rose> R.I.P Ron <rose>

Read sometime that saints fans collected enough funds together to get ron some significant medical treatment, I think it was dental work or a new hip. I never knew the man but hope his passing was easy.

Yes I think TSS had some involvement if I remember right. Tragic news!

Rest in peace Big Ron, your goals put Southampton Football Club in the nation's spotlight and into Europe for the first time in it's history....The great Sir Matt Busby described you as "The best Centre Forward in Europe" and he was a pretty good judge of a player.

Condolences to family and friends...The Saints have lost a true Legend today...<rose>

I know he hasn't had an easy time in his last years so I hope he is at peace now. He has been a hero of mine since I was 12 years old, one of the greatest centre forwards of all time.

RIP Big Ron, you will be sadly missed. <rose>

This is sad news. The word legend is used to describe footballers far too often, but Ron really is a Southampton legend. Without doubt, he is one of the greatest and most famous Saints players in history.

Our thoughts are with his family.
RIP Ron.

Yes Lamb I did. I'm quite shaken by his death. I thought we'd made Ron's later years a little bit easier, but I always feared he'd miss his wife really badly, when she died, very much keeping her own fatal illness out of our knowledge so that we could concentrate on getting Ron the medical aid he required. Like a lot of spouses, Ron was devoted to his partner and I can only guess he missed her too much. I wish we'd had a chance to get him over to St Mary's in the new era. Not to be. RIP friend.

Just like to remind people that Ron was absolutely astonished at the love, generosity and memories of Saints fans. He knew he'd been a great player, but he was also a shy, private person too and just had wonderful memories of playing for his clubs, Southampton FC in particular, in his later years. He jumped higher than many people ever did, both physically and metaphorically. Most of us will remember him doing just that.

What sad news ,along with Mick Channon they were a deadly combination and had a big influence on my childhood watching saints and my own footballing career , he was probably the best header of a ball I've seen playing ,seemed to hang in the air too ,lots of happy memories at the Dell ,Thanks Ron a true saints Legend
