Did he have something to do with or turned up for an event at the garden center just outside Preston?

That's our Preston not the one over in Lancashire.
Possibly, it was all Budgie related. I think he lived somewhere around here, Lincolnshire maybe? He was great chatting with. Polished off his Olympic with extra fried bread. Genuinely saddened to hear of his passing.

He was an absolute gentleman as well. Back in the 90s when I worked part time at Little Chef, I served the great man an Olympic Breakfast. Had a long chat to him, what a gentleman and legend. Talking about Budgerigars.

RIP Geoff Capes

I worked with two brothers who took part in the strongest man competitions in the UK. Heard them say they had met Geoff Capes a number of times and what a smashing bloke he was.

Yep, he was amazing. I have no interest in Budgies, having had a long conversation with him on the subject, I almost felt I should get one. A very humble man.

All the years been on this forum and never posted but would like to post this if ok, not sure where to do it.

Regarding RIP October would just like to add my Dad to this. He died on 8th October in the morning at Castle Hill after short illness. He was lifelong City fan for around 70 years. He loved the Waggy and Chillio generation and was lucky enough to have both help train his youth football teams. He took me as a four year old to Boothferry Park. We went through the tough times literally from Boothferry to Wemberly and so pleased he saw that. He always enjoyed (mostly!) reading this forum. Apart from me he has two very successful sons who's grandchildren support City home and away. This will be the first game wont be able to speak about to him aferwards. He literally was city till he died, a good man and i'll miss him.
The parallels with my own dad are very similar although 11 years ago. You’ve made me cry.

RIP the Dads.

I knew Geoff a little and his son well. Because of Geoff and his family I met my (now ex) wife and have my 3 children. He created a real sliding doors moment in my life and I was eternally thankful to him. RIP Geoff. A true Brit and a genuine gentleman.

He was at Costello several times during the 1980s, doing training sessions with Humberside youth athletics and was obliged to arm wrestle around a hundred of us at the sessions. One of those ppl who was genetically supremely gifted at athletics - he was faster in his mid-late thirties, and over 20 stone, at 100m than most of what was Humberside's under-18 group. No doubt would have been an incredible rugby union player in these modern times. No idea why he didn't cut back on the eating in his later life to protect his health and prolong his life, but we all have our reasons. A good man gone and a little more of what I remember from England consigned to history.

Was reading that he could do 100 metres in 11.2. Incredible fora bloke of his size.
