Ennio Morricone, one of the absolute greatest composers in film. His stuff on Westerns speaks for itself, but his work in giallos, horror and drama are also fantastic.

Incredible to think he didn't win an Oscar until 2015's The Hateful Eight by Tarantino, which was a score half made up of offcuts from The Thing soundtrack - a soundtrack that was derided at the time but is considered one of his best now.

Condolences Des, nowt rips at my heart like losing my dog, and I’ve lost a lot, for me it’s one of the worst things in life. They never purposely do anything wrong, and are the only being that love their master more than they love themselves.

Lived and worked in London, was trying to get on the tube about the time it all went off and was evacuated from the tube station. Then had to get into work via bus and walking - it was so weird in that you knew something odd/bad was happening but in that first hour had no idea about the scale of terror. The rest of the day was this horrible period of trying to get in touch with friends and colleagues to establish everyone was ok but all the moible networks were down. A horrible, horrible experience that I'll never forget and I was thankfully nowhere near any of the specific incidents. Can't believe it's been 15 years.

Passes away aged 85 at his home in Northumberland.
