It's sad but I think it would've been better if he'd died tbh, at least his family would've had closure because I doubt anything of Jules will come back. I get the impression from his fathers words that Jules said something similar in the wake of Schumacher's accident. I know my parents asked me to have it switched off if something similar happened.
Sounds like a terrible thing to say, but you're Probably right. The last 9 months must have been absolute hell for the family and they still face what could be an absolutely horrendous decision. So sad.
I too have been brought to tears by this. I watch a lot of racing, probably too much sometimes... but times like this really make me stop and think about what I'm really watching, and it's boils down to a bunch of people putting their life on the line for ultimate glory, for the desire to be the top of their particular racing discipline... And while tragedy makes me question why I watch racing, these guys and gals would be out there racing whether we're witnessing it or not. Racing will never be truly safe, but thankfully tragedy is far less frequently than in bygone era. Sadly for Jules, he was taken before being able to truly compete for his ultimate F1 glory.
The whole affair has been tragic and has devastated the Bianchis. My thoughts are with Jules' family, who may at last find some peace in closure from what was a cruel and hopeless limbo. No words are adequate at a time like this. What a tragedy...
RIP Jules wish you luck in the great grand prix of heaven. Thoughts with his family and this bittersweet news for them.
There never are the words available at times like this- just want to pass on my condolences and thoughts to the Bianchi family and loved ones. R.I.P Jules Bianchi
I just saw this on the Indy front page and I was in tears too. What a shock but no surprise; I suppose I was still hoping for the impossible. I feel terrible for his family and friends but now they can mourn properly; not much consolation, I know. Rest in peace, Jules; but such a wretched way to go.
Very sad day. RIP Jules. I do wish some good could come of this and the FIA actually change things to make car recovery safer to protect both drivers and marshals.
They have with the virtual safety car. The balance still needs to be kept between keeping the racing as pure and fluid as possible and avoiding the temptation to throw a safety car everytime a car retires and has to be pushed back behind the barriers. It must be remembered, however, that the tragedy could have been avoided on several counts, one also being Jules obeying the double yellow flags. Him not reacting to the flags and the conditions were a major part of the accident that ultimately would cost him his life. Drivers still need to obey the rules that are in place to safeguard them to make those safeguards work.
Tragic news but at least his family can now try and continue with their lives. Jules was a hugely talented guy and loss for the whole sport. In a kinder world he'd almost certainly be signing a Ferrari contract about now. After 20 years of surviving horrible looking accidents drivers at a race weekend had started to seem invincible. This serves as hash reminder that the push for better safety should never stop. It irritates me to no end every time i see someone state that "f1 needs the danger factor back" or some variation.
