Didn't you swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen when you were in the forces milton or were you in the Navy?
Good question mate, yes in a way.....probably 250 of us were herded into a hanger and the oath was read out to us, I honestly can't remember if we had to make a verbal response but I'm confident that I would have kept schtum. I can admit that I was naive (I was only 15 when I joined up) but i matured when I got a posting abroad. Ironically I was "volunteered" to part of the guard of honour at Churchills funeral, who I had an inherent dislike for but my posting abroad meant that I could could take embarkation leave, legend has it that its the only leave that cannot be cancelled so I got out of that one.
Tha Thank you to all who have worked tirelessly and intensely for a very long time to make this day, one I shall not forget. I have close relatives for whom this day has provided a challenge in reorganising shifts etc and provide on going critical health care that doesn't cope with bank holidays. No doubt many others on here too have more direct but similar issues today. I just hope that the family now get a few days to really come to terms with their loss, it's time for the rest of us to avert our gaze and deal with life in general and for the media to quietly move on.
After watching a lot of the events over the last few days, I feel that rather than this being the moment for the monarchy to be reformed it has actually strengthened it's position. Not just in England, but across the UK, people have come out in huge numbers to watch the Queen's coffin or greet the new King (or both). Although a lot of that number may have only been there to pay respects, I still think the Royal Family has benefitted from being in the public eye so much. The Not606 Roundheads on this forum have had a traumatic week with what feels like the whole world declaring their love for all things royal. But as I sit here drinking tea from my new King Charles III mug I can't help but feel we are about to see a Royal Resurgence. please log in to view this image
Most politicians fade into obscurity of history...Liz Truss’ s place in history is assured (even if she does nothing else) as the woman involved in the Queen’s last official duty. What a time to become PM
I admit to having a Cavalier attitude to the subject, I don't let my ego overrule my sense of right or wrong.
Seems like there was a Worldwide TV audience of 4.1 BILLION for HM Queen’s funeral. I think that is pretty impressive.
The main event is over we can all get back to our normal miserable existence. It's back to revelling in the success of the Saints as they March On. Whoopy do!
They are quoting that 5.1 Billion people watched the event. There were about 100 presidents and heads of Government, and 8 Monarchs at the event who barely got a mention. I wonder how Donald Trump would have coped? Joe Biden kept himself in an exemplary manner. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62890879
Of course that's not counting all those who said "Can't stand the royal family, I won't be watching" but couldn't resist having a little peek.
