Ian Pepperell, best known for playing Roy Tucker in The Archers, has died at the age of 53, the BBC said.

The actor, who played the hotelier in the long-running BBC Radio 4 drama for 22 years, died on Friday following a long illness.

The thespian was described by the editor of the programme Jeremy Howe as 'the perfect Archers actor' who was able to play comedy and emotion equally well.
 
Laura Lynch, one of the founding members of the country music juggernaut the Dixie Chicks, has died.

Lynch was killed in a car crash outside of El Paso, Texas, according to TMZ. She was 65.

Her cousin Mick Lynch revealed that she had died on Friday while driving from El Paso to Dell City, which is about 96 miles east.

Australian journalist John Pilger, who spent most of his professional life in Britain working for publications such as the Daily Mirror, has died at the age of 84.

Mr Pilger, who made his name as a foreign correspondent, reported on some of the most important world events of the 20th century, including the Vietnam War and the death of Dr Martin Luther King in the United States.

However, he was renowned for his reportage on the genocide in Cambodia under the brutal hand of its fierce dictator, Pol Pot, on which he reported for the Mirror and later made into a documentary, Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia.
