Battle of Britain hero Archie McInnes sadly passed away last night, just hours after celebrating his 100th birthday amongst friends & family. please log in to view this image
Like every other Battle of Britain or WW survivor he'll have been a humble and self-effacing man - one of our true heroes. RIP
Whenever I can I read about any Battle of Britain pilot or WW2 double agent (Zigzag, Garbo, etc...). The importance of both to our freedom cannot be overestimated. Rest in peace, Archie, and thank you.
I found out recently that me and Joe were in same class at primary school, I couldn’t remember as I was only 5, but my mam said his family were a right set of robbing Gyppos, RIP Joe, I thought you were alright
The English language is the best for describing emotions on days like this. In a world we’re the word legend or hero are used because your mate brought a pizza round for a games night, the English language lets me down when I have to put into words how we should feel towards these men. The only words I can choose are thank you, we owe you everything. RIP HERO.
A great voice, a tough upbringing on the wrong side of the tracks, talent, and if he'd been born in different circumstances in this country and with a different manager he could have been massive with a completely different audience.

The world’s going mad. RIP to the 20 innocent people killed in the Walmart, El Paso deadly rampage, followed only 12 hrs later with 9 dead in the Dayton, Ohio mass shooting. Innocent people, purely in the wrong place, wrong time, every right to be going about their normal daily business. Tragic, RIP to all.
Maybe, but he was fairly big anyway wasn't he? London Palladium & Los Vegas isn't exactly small time stuff. I remember seeing him in one of his early gigs at Red Lion in Anlaby. I think he was about 15 at the time. RIP Joe.
Saw Joe in Grapes on Stoneferry many years ago. He'd already made it but. Did it as a favour to the landlord who he knew through family ties. Buggered if I can remember who the landlord was. But he was brilliant. Great singer, impressionist and fantastic stage Presence. Really took the piss out of the locals. RIP Joe.
Lotto Soudal rider Bjorg Lambrecht dies aged 22 following a crash today on Stage 3 of the Tour de Pologne Ride in Peace Bjorg
Yes he was massive enough, but forever associated to the ghetto of New Faces/ northern club circuits by the cultural snobs of the broadsheets and Arts journalists. A bit like the way Elvis' career path was limited by 'Colonel' Tom Parker.
