    going back to the name translation posts earlier, it's funny this should come up.

    my mate was telling me the other day that many years ago, the Dutch didn't use to have surnames and when it was introduced, it was taken as a bit of a joke by the public.

    so Ricky wolfshop is one of many.

    Rijkaard = Moneybags
    Van bommel = bomb threat
    Basten = Bark
    Persie = dispersion
    Braafheid = goodness

    i don't know whether i've been royally stitched up here, but it does seem to work!

    "Frank Moneybags" and "mark of bomb threat". - genius.

    Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is a good one.
    Apparently of actually means or in Dutch, so it's the equivalent of an English double-barrelled name.

    Bastian Schweinsteiger has one of the more ridiculous ones.
    It translates as pig climber.

    If you cut the surname down into sections, you often get individual words, in Dutch and German.

    I had an idea that it meant pig- something SpursRoo, but I didn't know what.
    I think someone mentioned it during the commentary for a game, funnily enough.

    Have you seen his missus?

    I've heard various different meanings for it Lidls, but I believe that the literal translation is climber.
    It means cager in the Bavarian dialect, apparently.
    I think the older German would have it as Pig penner, so pig farmer would be the most appropriate translation, if not the funniest.

    German's not my language, but I can confirm as a Dutchman some of the Dutch above are true. There are many jokes made about van Bommel and how much of a bomb threat he is <ok>

    That's bratwurst, Notso and it's German, not Dutch.
    I think that the contents depends upon who you get them from too, just like the sausages in this country.
    Check the pork content on some of them...

    Someone might suggest that your over-sensitivity in that area is down to some deep-rooted sexual issues, Notso.
    I wouldn't, of course... <whistle>

    I was going put mmm!, but that could misinterpreted as mmm! nice, instead of mmm! pondering, before any such misunderstandings occur and unecessary accusations of sausage jockeying get slung...we'll leave that one there! <yikes> <laugh>

  19. Just to clarity, are we talking about your average German sausage, or fat juicy cock?

    They do have something very similar in name in Holland PNP, I've seen them at scoff stalls at the bike racing in Assen, my mates tried them...gristley, garlicy **** was how one described it! <laugh> ending up in the bin. If I'm going to eat anything like that chicken or burgers for me.

    ...I can just see the tightwad from Oldham making his own!...I feel sorry for the owners of all those missing cats!
