What is it with some of the people who have replied to this article?

"If you think Lambert's only contribution is goals then you clearly either don't go to games or are mentally disturbed."

and

" Are you a complete idiot!

What a pointless thread..."

are just two of the more abusive personal comments made to someone who's made an innocent attempt to discuss an issue (to him at least). In between all the easy sarcasm and name calling there are actually some interesting points by people who took the time to make an adult comment. So it wasn't a "pointless" article at all. If all people can do is ridicule then the board quickly descends into a childish slanging match barely worth contributing to. The original post was clearly not a wind up and didn't deserve the response it received.

I can understand that Lambert will want to get a goal early on this season.

He struggled early last season but once he got 2 or 3 he went on to be a massive influence. It's not all about scoring goals <ok>

Rickie is a man, he won't develop a block <ok> :)

Calling it pointless is not "abusive". Get a grip.

Lambert scored in the week and yes it was against a League 2 side but he still scored. Seeing as we have only played 2!!! yes 2!! league games I do not think he will get a mental block. So it is a pointless/needless thread.

No it's not, but had you taken the trouble to read it all you would have seen the other part of the same comment asked "are you a complete idiot?" That might not be abusive to you but I think it is.

Cheers IOAG - to be honest, you aren't going to get through to some people. If we were having this debate face to face they wouldn't be half as offensive. Some users think I'm over reacting which is fine. I was only voicing my concerns over something that could happen. Apparently to some people that means I need to have my intelligence insulted fine. If you don't agree with something and can't be bothered to make a decent argument then don't comment at all. It isn't good for generating debate.

I did see it and I didn't say it as I have my own opinion on this thread. My first one was "Are you being serious?"

Concerns that didn't need to be voiced. Next time Davis concedes a goal are we going to make a thread saying he should be out of the team? (rhetorical) If everyone voiced their concerns.... well I'm sure you can understand where I am going with this.

Considering we're now on the third page of replies, the post was obviously not pointless - Leon, you're spot on about how the abuse would not happen if it were a face to face discussion, but unfortunately it's not so you will tend to attract a certain amount if people don't agree with what you've written (people are so brave behind their keyboards).
Don't be put off by it though, the whole point of this forum is to generate debate and you,ve certainly done that

Lambert is clearly important. he draws the defence in and creates space for Lallana and Connelly. Whilst Leons point is a
Little premature, it's his point of view and rather than be shot down, some of you need to take a chill pill. I do think that Lambert is being targeted by the oppo and I do think he needs to get a goal in the championship sooner rather than later to get the monkey off his back. I think Leons point is valid as a striker thrives on goals, goals create confidence, confidence allows a player to express himself more freely. Lambo has not set the world alight yet. However, his contribution has been noteworthy and were winning games. From a selfish point of view, Lambo will want a goal to prove something to himself. Once that goal comes, I'm sure Ricky has another couple of gears.

I don't see how this is a pointless thread. I know how well he played against Leeds, maybe I didn't communicate my point very well. My only concern is that if he doesn't score soon he may develop a mental block about scoring at this level. I am not on his back, I rate him highly, if you read my opening statement I said he should be our main striker! It seems slot of you don't read properly or jump to conclusions and don't bother reading the rest of the thread, I had even stated in my second reply that it was more concern than anything...

FFS. I don't think it was a stupid thing to write and I won't apologise for it. But some of your responses are a bit needlessly aggressive when a simple "I can see what you are saying but RL will be fine".

You made your original point perfectly adequately Leon86, it's just that some people love to jump on others with a quick and ill considered reply. As I said, I think you're overreacting, but at least you're not doing the easy football supporter thing and writing him off. I can see you are most certainly NOT on his back, as several people have suggested you are. Just concerned, albeit a wee bit prematurely IMO. Besides, Rickie's playing fine and Saints are scoring goals.

hahaha at this thread! Are we realigning these concerns now and only dropping Lambert if he fails to get his hat-trick tonight?

Lat

Haha you can eat your own words now Leon, although i do agree some of these posts were rather pointless and offensive for no reason, lets not put posters and potential signups off, we're a friendly bunch really, and 3-0! Love ittt
