Murray's latest "Update" tells us absolutely nothing except that he was wrong to build up our hopes. But then nobody apart from Old Reamsy trusts Murray anyway. He keeps saying that "Richard" has put his money into Charlton, which is more than the rest of us have. That's about as honest as Murray's statements. Thousands of fans have been putting their money into Charlton week in week out for years expecting nothing in return, unlike Murray, except the satisfaction of supporting their team. There is a culture of dishonesty at Charlton now, and it predates Roland. In fact it began when Murray appointed Dowie, and Murray has been an integral part of it ever since. Who else would back up the CEO's series of lies before she could only be stopped by imposing a gag? And they have found their ideal mouthpiece in Karl "I'm too honest" Robinson. Murray really has to leave the stage for Charlton to regain its integrity.
Thousands of Charlton fans also put their money into Charlton in Murray’s share issue. Remind me who reduced those shares to waste paper.
No there wasn't. Murray was getting irate at the Meeting because people were complaining, quite rightly, that they had lost their investment. He grabbed the microphone and went on this long speech about how much money he had lost. Not one word of apology was uttered. I knew that putting money into Charlton was risky, but an apology should have been forthcoming. I lost what little respect I had for Murray. I also lost quite a few thousand as well.
We lost our money because of trust 1) We trusted Murray to run the Club responsibly, 2) We trusted Murray to look after our investment as he would his own, 3) We trusted Murray to tell us the truth, 4) We trusted Murray! We trusted the wrong man.
Does anyone else see similarities between Richard Murray & Arsene Wenger? Long past their best. Stubborn. Arrogant. Deluded. Still thinking that their diminished presence will see a return to the glory years.
Absolutely none - Venger's won trophy's, produced quality teams, and has made money for Arsenal. Best thing Murray did was he get lucky with Curbs.
I think they share personality traits including self delusion and huge egos. And neither seems able to walk away from something they are now so obviously ruining. Agree that Murray got very lucky with hindsight regarding Curbs.
Not everybody trusted him at the time. Besides the bad decisions of which there were many, his biggest problem was not looking for takeover/investment when things got too rich for him. #ego
If Murray is given the choice & can delay payback if his £2.7m debt in return for a continuing involvement in Charlton ...I think we can all guess what he will choose. #ego
They'll miss Venger when he's gone. He has constantly lost his best players to 'bigger Clubs', so he gets the best of the rest. On finances, which is how the league table pans out, Arsenal are about where they should be.
Trouble is, they have very expensive seats at Arsenal - all their fans see is an absentee owner who prizes revenue over success. Now that Wenger can’t guarantee top 4 Champions League football, it’s hard to see the point of him. At least Wenger only overstayed his welcome by a couple of years - with Murray it’s been 12, and counting ...
I don't think anybody could guarantee Champions League football at Arsenal, and after the big three money Clubs, you now have Spurs & Liverpool in the reckoning. Arsenal used to be higher up in the ranks for buying/keeping top players. That has changed.
There's no comparison. Wenger's achievements over many years are undeniable, even though Arsenal are now a fading force. Murray's achievements can be summed up in two words- Alan Curbishley. Even that is tainted IMO by his failure to make the most of Curbs' achievements, and squandering them by throwing money at Dowie and pardew which could have been spent on sorting out the pitch and allowing Curbs to consolidate. Now "Richard" has a mutual admiration society with Old Reamsy, which speaks volumes about how low he's now sunk. Wenger would never stoop to that level.
Let's bear in mind that it wasn't in their past achievements that Royston was comparing Murray with Wenger, but in their personality traits and current behaviour. There are some similarities I think. The way Wenger reacted with indignant shock at the very notion that his job might not be 100% secure until the end of his contract shows how far out of touch he is with the reality for many Arsenal fans. Murray is equally out of touch with Charlton's fans, preferring as he does the company of a few toadies and apologists.
Remember Murray’s response to the Covered End singing “Murray, Murray, you’re a kunt “ “ I was disappointed with some of the treatment I received this season” We had just finished 13th in League One
