I used a bar next door to La Morte Subite. Although near to Grand Place, it was a locals place - full of postmen getting pissed after work. As such, it made you feel that you were in a "proper" bar, if you know what I mean?

Turn right once you come out of the arcade, and they were both in the road first left. Rue Herbs, or something like that. La Morte Subite is quite famous - was Jacques Brel's watering hole, I think - but is a tourist honeypot now. Still pleasant, though, for visitors. Good "Mixed Plate", too!

On the topic of Brussels, a friend of mine went to Bruges last year for a week with ones from his work, loved it, brilliant city, great craic etc. etc... Went to Brussels for the day and said it was a complete ****hole, had to get the **** out of the place after a few hours
