This is my take on it, McLean does it to score political points, yes we all understand he comes from Londonderry where many died on “Bloody Sunday” but he doesn’t grasp the meaning of the poppy in my honest opinion which is to commemorate WAR DEAD not soldiers or their actions, but all those who die in service nor does it glorify war, or those who Kill in zones of conflict.Two footballers not wearing poppies....one, the usual suspect, creating his own headlines, the other for what appears more personal reasons.....

Totally agree.will be a tad more emotional this Sunday.

This is my take on it, McLean does it to score political points, yes we all understand he comes from Londonderry where many died on “Bloody Sunday” but he doesn’t grasp the meaning of the poppy in my honest opinion which is to commemorate WAR DEAD not soldiers or their actions, but all those who die in service nor does it glorify war, or those who Kill in zones of conflict.
Secondly he refuses to wear the poppy, his lawful right I suppose but to condemn a nation for the action of a few whilst accepting £40,000 per week of that nations money to ply his trade in said country smacks of Judas and his 40 pieces of silver.
If he is that concerned about it , he should go ply his trade elsewhere, or keep silent on the matter or just not play on or near armistice day thus not giving the press or opposition or even his own club fans the chance to abuse him.
