Saw Beale at the game on Saturday playing "the bluebells are blue" on his bagpipes outside the ground.
Most of the furore is over James McClean, an Irishman who plays in England. Nothing to do with the 'Old Firm'.
The point is, it has **** all to do with football, and the sport would be better off if it had **** all to do with it. Let those who wish to celebrate go to the cenotaphs, and let those who want to watch football go to the stadiums.
That particular 'furore' must have passed me by. But if he doesn't want to wear a poppy on his shirt, that's fair enough imo.
They played the "Last Post" at the North London derby yesterday. I'm not aware of any resentment on the part of Arsenals not inconsiderable Irish support.
It's happened in the last decade because of the Afghan war. Plenty of people disagree with the war, most of them still respect the young, mostly working class people who lost their lives.
And I don't read the tabloids. So I miss most of the ****.

I'm with Jif with regards to politics should be removed from sport. Wear a poppy if you want ( not necessarily on your sleeve [monocager] ), don't wear it if you don't want. Stand still for a minute or two - or sit down if you don't want - but let's not be forced to do so when at an event unconnected to politics. A question that is springing up within this thread is - why should people be constrained to 'respect' [seemingly] only at sports venues ?- if you was at your local supermarket, they may invite you to join them in a minute's silence - but they wouldn't bat an eyelid if you just continued to take stuff off the shelves - and if you dared to walk out without payment, the store detective isn't just going to stand there whilst the seconds ticked by..... and the surgeon operating in the hospital isn't going to just look at the open chest cavity etc etc etc. - can you imagine the carnage and mayhem if airline pilots 'switched off' for a couple of minutes at 35,000 ft.
We can all pay our respects either privately or in the correct, more dignified surroundings than a football stadium - where, as I said, for the next 90 minutes all that will happen is that 22 men will engage in another war - where respect doesn't come into the equation.
^^^^never been to an Old Firm gameI'm probably thick but i certainly wouldn't ever call a few men kicking a ball across a field a war.

Good old Rangers. Get the army in and cater for their knuckle dragging fans who love a soldier with a big weapon.
"Thanks for hosting us" says the army. "We're looking forward to seeing the size of the donation you'll be giving to Poppy Scotland".
Awkward silence ensues...
this mincer's been beelin aw weekendObviously, because FC BHEAST fans continually and consistently make an absolute **** of themselves every year as a sizeable majority of their fans can't stay silent for 60 seconds, ergo, now the Not606 BHEASTS are wanting the Poppy banned now saying that the Nation paying their respects has been hijacked by "Britain Furst types and H*ns" showing what a disgusting Club FC BHEAST is.
100 years ago, young men of mainly working class backgrounds and 200,000 from Glasgow alone, went to fight in Europe because politicians were flexing their diddies and many of these guys never came home. Ever since, at Cenotaphs all over the UK, people have paid their respects. People who disrupt minutes silences are absolute knuckle-draggers. We all know that one club is more interested in disrespecting the dead whilst they promote terrorist scum who smeared **** on themselves and sucked each others cocks in jail whilst their politicians covered up systematic child abuse.
SCUM FROM CRADLE TO GRAVE!
Check oot Nev tonguing his hero's dunger
"Well said, sir. Another rim sir?"
this ****s been beelin for days
