I'm doing all I can at the minute to sort out the general chat issues, there will be a few moderators being appointed as well to try stop this crap happening again. Give it a few days to calm down.
 
Well Kim Jong Il has been banned so it's a start. ****ing horrible twat he was, Venom is just as bad. Let's all see how things pan out though eh?

It's a shame it has taken a sad turn of events which some people can't respect to bring things to a head.
As much as we mocked the old BBC 606 for being so strict I can appreciate what they did now.
There is content on GC which should carry an X rating the are so obscene, I'm an open minded person who comes on here for football banter and to talk to people young and old.
If I thought for one minute my son was coming on here and getting ridiculed by some of the idiots on the GC and being exposed to some of the vile filthy they put on there I'd be horrified.

Mick I appreciate you are acting to improve things and I'm not telling you how you should do it. But there are many moral boundries being crossed which shouldn't be, and some of these users should be getting banned IMO.

Let's recall that at the start, it appeared that many from BBC 606 didn’t make the transition to the new forum because the articles and general banter were (upon reflection) diabolical as we enjoyed our new found freedom to swear and generally say incredibly libellous things about anything under the sun. Sure, we’ve had a few ‘legendary threads (cheers Tash)’ but on the whole, we’ve stayed away from creating more of that ilk.

We’ve largely imposed upon ourselves a set of standards and when some outside this particular Newcastle forum don’t adhere to these, it has caused contention to us when we’ve seen some of the distasteful comments on GC.

I don't like the attitude of numerous posters on that board but neither am I willing to argue with them over there individual concepts of behaviour or try to enforce Mick to enforce stricter moderation on them. It's their choice to express these thoughts and within bounds; their right.

Let’s not leave here. We are in control of this Newcastle forum. We have our own ideals and rules that we try to adhere to. These are not imposed via some forum regulations but by ourselves.

I’m not happy about the standard of comments on GC but I’ve decided NOT to look at them. Mick can handle this situation if he wants to.

I’m not signing up to any additional forum. I’m staying. To those who leave, I hope I’ll see you around again and à bientôt.

Agree with this. Don't want my kids inadvertantly going on GC. All my midget porn's fine but not GC.

It's a pity GC can't be what it's supposed to be, a place to chat about stuff other than football as it occasionally leads to some very OT stuff being posted on here.
 
Agree with everything. I signed up for this forum when old 606 closed, yet you can see from my post count, that I'm not the most prolific poster. This is because this forum sucked when I first joined, with so much crap spouting out of most people I was close to leaving. But now we have a great community on the Newcastle board. We still say insensitive stuff, which some people may find offensive (an awful lot of unnecessary swearing and rape comments) but as a community we work. I have the Newcastle page bookmarked, so bypass all other pages coming here. I used to look at the other sports forums, but they all seemed to have the same flaming problems. I think the way to sort general chat out is to have strict rules there, and another separate forum, where people can go to say the crap they want. That way the juveniles can have their "fun" and we can have our music and film threads.
I won't be leaving this forum, as whatever happened last night (and I don't really know) hasn't affected me in any way.

This! Entirely this! I have started to post comments more often recently because I feel like the forum has 'calmed down' a bit now...and I must admit I find the prolific swearing and 'rape' comments pretty gross (and to be honest I'm not a fan of blaspheming either) but I like the 'not swearing' filter and I just have to accept that I'm perhaps a bit more sensitive than others and get over it. It doesn't change the fact that I think this forum is fantastic and as a relatively 'new' serious supporter (a few years), I've learnt loads about the team past and present, and football in general, by being here!
 
Well said, and I wont be leaving either. GC has always been like that, if you want to discuss something off topic wouldnt you rather post it here and discuss it with friends rather than a bunch of vile twats? I'm sad to see that people are leaving, hope they come back.
 
Mick is taking steps to put things in order so i'm all for giving him time and space to do that. I'm one of those who has wanted a GC to use but has been put off by the regulars so i'm glad that we may actually have one soon that we can use. I would hate to leave this place for the reasons already stated by so many.

Put it this way, I've been on many toon forums over the years and this is the first I've really liked and been prolific in. There's a great bunch of lads, decent banter, serious discussion and unlike some other forums, everybody knows everybody around here, it's not just "posters" giving their views, it's more like "I knew X would say that to Y, he's that kind of guy" and all that is kind of refreshing. Personally, I think it would be community suicide for everyone to part ways and I am definitely staying and a few GC morons can never change that.

Going on there, and reading the tripe that is written, by these knuckle-dragging troglodytes used to boil my piss. Then I stopped going on it, and everything is rosy again.

A big thank you. I wasn't your biggest fan after the transfer deadline server meltdown but respect for sorting out the attention seekers .
