Fair point, but playing well does not put points on the board.
My altered assessment is that we dont beat the top half teams away from home...fact.
A draw is 1 point but a win is 3 points, so to take three points from a rival is huge!
Had we beaten Cardiff away (whilst playing well) we would be 6 points higher than them up the table.
Had we beaten Brum away today we would have clear breathing space on them. They will be right with us till the end trust me.
Conviction is all that is required.
Obviously I agree with this (who wouldn't?!), but I still maintain that if you take 4 points off of each of your rivals, then you're highly likely to be in a great position, respective to your aims - no matter if you're fighting it out for a title, or battling against relegation.
We've now achieved that against Birmingham, and 'only' require draws away to West Ham, Leeds, Hull and Boro to tick them off as well. Reading, Derby and Burnley we would all need to beat, but they're at home so I'd back us to do that. The only issues are that we've failed to take 4 points off of Cardiff and Brighton, whilst taking 4 points off of Blackpool will be very difficult.
I appreciate your response. It makes total sense.
I'd just like us to win a few of the six pointers as I genuinely feel it will be required to get an auto place. I accept drawing the 4 away games against our big rivals individually sounds great but if we draw those games, our rivals will be winning around us and I can promise we will not walk the park against every other team to make up the points. (Bristol City a good example).
We need to knock a few teams out of their stride and I think were perfectly capable of doing that. I'd rather beat West Ham and Boro then draw at home to Reading and Burnley as it will put us in a much stronger position come the end of the season.
