We were short in defense last season, but lucked out with injuries - everyone on here knew that we needed strengthening in FB and CB, even when we were flying high. Pardew admitted this and said this was a priority in the summer. We did have more options up front though, with Leon Best and Peter Lovenkrands as alternatives. They weren't the best (excuse the pun), and definitely weren't fan favourites (I definitely wasn't a Best fan), but at least they were options.

We lost Guthrie, but gained Anita and a few squad members (Bigirimana and Amalfitano), but essentially were the same squad wise.

With the added Europa League fixtures, everyone and their dog knew that we needed real strengthening and that our luck with injuries wouldn't continue this season. Hence, we all could see the squad being over-stretched this season and that the lack of ambition shown in the summer window was a glaring error by our board.

I don't think anyone was praising our board after our summer transfer dealings. Pardew got credit when he deserved it - obviously he's completely lost the momentum he had going last season, and is rightfully getting slated. I don't think us fans are being fickle. I think it's a case of reaping what you sow.

Leon best never let us down and I would have liked him on the bench today ready for the last 15 mins to give us a push

 

We should have at least brought in a replacement. From 5th to relying on 2 senior strikers. What a joke
