I was reading an article the other day (I wish I could find it). Anyway Syd. Our fans remarkable talent for always spotting the bad in any given situation is so apparent they have given it a name. Sunderland syndrome.
Yes this thread is a few hours old and many of you have had your say discussing the so call clause in Wickham's contract. I'm not being funny but I find this whole thread a total embarrassment in the sheer fact that the lad hasn't even kicked a football for the club and you are talking about how much he'll be worth if we sell him. We all know that Players read said forums and If I was a player I would be extremely surprised If I'd just signed for a club and the fans are discussing how much I'm worth within 24 hours of me signing. Yes this site is about discussing things but come on.... Sat shaking head at screen in shock of you lot, I thought you were all better than that.
I'm sceptical about whether or not this is the case. Would the club release that kind of information the day he signed? Would they ****. Another thing, have you seen the gallery of the lad signing on on www.safc.com ? The lad is beaming from ear to ear, he looks absolutely delighted to be here, not like a lad who's grudgingly accepted second best in any way, my guess is we'll have him for a good few years, and he'll become a cult hero. I have a strong feeling this man is gonna be the business for us, with Sess and Larsson providing the bullets, he will get chances, and he will score goals. The Ipswich fans have said themselves he was often let down by a lack of creativity around him, well, he shouldn't have them issues going on now. A wonderful signing this may well be, and hats of to Bruce, Quin and Short for once again reminding us we are in safe hands.
"If" this clause is true, I would be very disappointed. I think the lad is a good prospect and it's a brave move by the club signing him. But am I the only one who wants to build a team that is continually moving forward? That means signing and retaining players as SAFC stalwarts. I will borrow one of the skunks crystal balls. Lets assume he has a great season grabs a bag full of goals and we end the season comfortably in 7th or 8th. Unluckily missing out on Europe. We are the proud supporters of Englands new wonder kid. After only one season, this clause kicks in and we end up selling him for whatever price. No matter how much money we receive, wouldn't make me feel better by taking a step backward and having to go through the problem of replacing him. Yes I know football is very mercenary at this point in time, and players are looking after No1. Can anyone honestly say, they would be happy after a great single season the money would make everything all right?
I don't think there is a set of supporters in the land as bad as us for trying to find negatives out of every situation...Live for today for God's sake!
A club like Liverpool? What does that mean? A club that won't be playing European competition football next year and that finished only four places above us? That's tripe of the highest order in my eyes.
