I think for Miggins idea you would need two seperate tyre allocations: 1 to last all the practice sessions of the year and one for all the qualifying and races of the year. Then you would not be restricting teams from running in practice sessions.

Good point Sea-Man.

But even if Migg's idea needs the inevitable tweak, it is one of the most original ideas I've heard of for a long time.
 
Interesting theory but what does a driver do if he has used all hs tyres? sit the rest of the season out?

Just a theory, but you could bring out a kind of "super hard" tyre that all teams get unlimited use of throughout the season
The only draw back is that it is a bit off the pace of the other tyre compounds
 
I think you're being a bit unrealistic in thinking they will 3/4 stop when using the hard and super hard tyres, they won't have any less tyres than they do this season, and if they run out of FRESH tyres that's their own fault, but they wont run out of tyres, as they will still have their scrubbed and worn sets.
