He couldn't say anything at the time and also can't name a player if he's still in the squad.

He should tell the fa privately. Its also pretty easy to work out, one of them had a kid and wasn't married.

Also, its probably not going to do us much good if the players go against him on this but its good to hear as an England fan.

He's just said he won't name names.
Its for friendlies and as he said, you see 3 or 4 players pull out of England friendlies but never miss a club game. It happened a lot at man u too but Rooney wasn't one of them.
 
Can't help but think Redknapp should never have come out with these comments

Shouldn't he be concentrating on who he's going to sign for us?

Wrap up the signing of Tom Ince, give us all a boost and signal our intentions
 
There's an article that he only wants to sign old players while TF wants young players with resale value.

That's why we haven't signed anyone, I didn't want to start a new thread as people would be accusing me of all sorts of stuff.
 
Worrying to hear, although I wonder about the wisdom of saying this in public.

I'm watching a review of the World Cup so far on football focus (bbc world) and they are talking about a few of the players from Costa Rica who haven't blown anyone away at club level, but have been brilliant at the international level. Sadly, for England it seems the other way round, and players priorities club football.

Given this, could we change it so that instead of selecting any English players, English players have to apply to play for England, and the manager picks from those who apply. At least then the England manager will be picking from players who are desperate to wear the three lions with pride, thus avoiding those who couldn't care less and therefore don't deserve to play for England.
 
I believe what Harry's said, but he should not start naming players. It would be a breach of a confidence and would surely damage Harry's relationship with the players in any club he manages in the future including ours.

He's made the point. Some England squad members put their national duties beneath those of their club and families. Are many of us that surprised? It's become an burden rather than an honour to play for England. Paul Scholes retired from international duty because of all the stick he got from the media.

Did he?! I have got the impression from here at least that the media loved Scholes.

Personally, I doubt very much it is only English players not being enthusiastic about playing friendlies for their countries. And I reckon players who shine at the World Cup are often ones who haven't particularly done so at their Clubs, and therefore have not played as much football as the ones that did shine, and so come to World Cups much fresher than players who have just finished long seasons in Europe.

This is a difficult one. If you were one of the players having their name quoted as a possibility, but were not guilty I doubt if you would be happy with this.

In those circumstances you would want the players named to clear yourself of blame. I'm not sure what Harry wished to achieve with his comments.
 
Is this not a Puncheon Warnock comment thing again. Nothing good ever comes of these throw away comments and if this is the case then they should go to FA etc. A sorry state of affairs and further heaps embarrassment on the English game.

Unfortunately, I think Harry will come to regret these comments.

How can a player go to him in confidence now, knowing that Harry may accidently let fly ???
 
I know he has his detractors on here, but I like Harry Redknapp. But to come out with this doesn't do anyone any favours. He looks a prick for not outing them at the time (he couldn't, we've established) and for now opening his gob without being able/willing to name & shame (he could risk slander accusations). All English members of his Spurs squad now fall under suspicion regardless of their guilt. The footballing public is left frustrated by the whole kit & caboodle.

You'd have thought by now that Redknapp would've been all to aware of his rent-a-quote media reputation and be a little more on guard as a consequence.

C'mon Harry, keep it zipped and focus your attentions on building a QPR squad capable of not only surviving next season, but also one that wins new friends.
 
We have to maybe face up to the fact that we are a 'club before country`nation. Which is not surprising considering the history of English football - namely that the football league was nearly 100 years old before anyone here took the World Cup seriously. The 'club before country' syndrom is also not confined just to players but to many fans as well - how many of us accept it blindly when our players come back injured or knackered from international duty if this has a negative effect on our club's success ? I can also understand players who don't want to expose themselves to the type of media and public execution involved in playing for England. Also the idea that those players should be named reminds me a little of the old idea of throwing people into the tower of London for 'unpatriotic behaviour'. Patriotism is not compulsory - either you have it or you don't and not having it does not make you a persona non grata. I would consider myself as being proud to play for England - but would only do so if I were free to completely ignore the national anthem (which is for me only a relevant anthem for royalists). Does this make me less patriotic ?
 
Harry's been getting a lot of support, so I believe him 100% on this. Gerrard was always going to have to say something when asked, and as he's 'still' captain of the national team, he was always going to say what he did.

One thing's for sure - nobody in our side will try to get out of International duty now...

Good post, although, I don't agree with the anthem part. Look at how Chile and Brazil (republics) sang.

Ours is a crap depressing anthem more suited to a funeral march and its also the British one so doesnt have the right identity.

Id ignore the anthem too, I dont give a **** about the queen either way.
