When I saw Defoe had been chosen ahead of Ade or Demps I went for a walk with a scowl on my face. I'm confounded. So does AVB keep faith with Defoe? I suppose so.

Defoe is, and always has been, a confidence player. AVB has given him that confidence by keeping faith with him. No, he's not perfect, but he's a natural goalscorer. So long as he keeps banging them in, there's no reason for AVB to change things, IMO.

I don't think this is an absolute, there are already several claims being made in Reading of having a ticket but not being able to attend!

I'm not disappointed that we lost 3-1 to a class outfit like Spurs, but the boys on our site are disappointed at the manner in which we lost. The gulf between you and us was scary by all accounts, as comments have showed that have flowed in, and you only have to look at the match stats to see that, and you're getting lavish praise on "RR" tonight.

Cheers and all the best for the upcoming games ... maybe a Champions League place now beckons?

I didn't see your drummer, but from where his noise appeared to be coming from (the NE corner of the ground ?)., there were certainly empty seats in that area.

If I was going to single out a disappointing player it'd be Walker he was defensively very poor and he's starting to become a liability in the air. Bale and Sig had good games I felt. Bale might not have been centre of attention but when he was involved in attacks I felt he created good chances and kept the ball well when nothing was on.

He has always been suspect defensively and again today he switched off. He has not had the best of starts to his season, but he is a huge talent and he'll pick up soon.

Can't really argue with that Spain. Others feet will get itchy though. To go back to somebody mentioning Lazio,we have a connection with them but I can't remember for the life of me what.

Spurs looked comfortable today against a woeful Reading side, who must be odds on favourites for relegation. They never looked like winning the ball in midfield, conceding possession easily to Spurs throughout the game. How Spurs are really faring under AVB will have be gauged against a team far better than this.

Spurs often tried a patient build up with a lot of short passing. At times, a longer ball over the top for Bale, Lennon or Defoe to chase would have produced better returns.

There were plenty of long balls and diagonals, a few too many for my liking, I felt we were better keeping it on the ground and using our movement and number in the final third to open them up.

Yeah, I'm sure he will. I do feel that Lennon and Walker are guilty of overplaying it on the right at times but I guess it was difficult today without having much of a target in the box.

Well you'd know all about this eh! having played 3 poor sides since getting stuffed by Everton. :) At least we know what you're like against 'better' opposition!<ok>

Reading drew with Stoke and then were only undone by an offside goal against Chelsea.
They looked poor today, but perhaps that's because we played well?

I think there's some truth in that. We out them under pressure from the start, and dominated for most of the match. They say that it's a simple game. But, not when you haven't got the ball, it's not.

Talking of Utd this season, are they getting so desperate that their internationals have to dive in the box to score? It was only Wigan after all.

Agree about Sigi and Bale being disappointing. As you saw and heard, Sigi got a very impressive welcome back from the Reading fans and I thought that would inspire him, but it didn't really. I know he was involved in one of the goals, but overall he didn't really perform to his pre-season form.

Verts was indeed excellent, by far and away his best performance for us so far.

Sigurdsson looks out of his depth in the Premiership at the moment.
I had formed doubts about him during the pre season matches and had made comments to this affect on this board already this season. I might be wrong but I can't see any improvement in him.

It was comforting to see the lads dominate the game with such confidence today. Reading however, were piss poor and will struggle in this division.

I was wondering when someone dare mention it after I did. They were sloppy in possesion first half fair enough, we could easily have been aswell with sloppy passing but we weren't. We were accurate, and they couldn't get it off us, Shall we pat ourselves on the back or not? <whistle>

Anyone watching MOTD2 ...anyone want to argue with the analysis!

Some of the comments here must have been watching a different game. Did you see the long diagonal from Sandro Luke? :)

Think you're very harsh on Sigurdsson, unlucky with two chances as well as a simply brilliant ball to Lennon for the opener. Probably his best game for us so far and now we've got the right personnel in midfield I can see him improving along with several others. He's not going to fill VDV's shoes at just 23 though.
