Ramirez..

Was it a family death? I heard his girlfriend ran away to Uruguay or something (not saying that's true either). Anyone actually know the reason he went?

Sky and BBC News have been saying bereavement, as did some fella over on SaintsWeb who is usually pretty clued up on team news and the like.

Yeah. Sad really. I hold no favouritism to any of our players. I want them all to do well and play as a team. I gave Ramirez man of the match with 9.5/10 against Newcastle in the match ratings thread for example.

"I'm not racist! Some of my friends are black!"

Obviously, I'm not calling you racist. Your argument here is just as ridiculous as the one above.

Gaston Showed a different side of his game today and got stuck in and did the "dirty" side of things. I thought we needed a second to take the game away from reading but the 1 proved enough.

Play for the team next time and not individual glory... It was like a team of 10 + Ramirez at the end. Twice he tried to score instead of running to the corner. Very disappointed in that when every other player was trying to kill the game in the corner or run the clock down by passing it around. You might think I'm being harsh but surely we can never forget how many late goals we conceded the season we went down in 04-05 when players went for individual glory instead of being a team player on several occasions..

What are you griping about? What does the team have to do to please you? Have you already forgotten that Rambo has flown to Uruguay and back this week, had a serious bereavement in his family, tell me any player that would actually wanted to play under those conditions? If you can't see any good in what is happening I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself.

Today wasn't his best game but he still played well. We have such high standards from him, I think this is why he's being criticised for not having amazing performances week after week.

I must be missing something here. I've just checked today's results to make sure I wasn't hallucinating when I saw Saints totally dominate and beat Reading this afternoon, keeping our second clean sheet of the season in the process. On top of that, we are now in 15th place, the highest position we have been in the Premier League for about seven years and nine months. Gaston Ramirez, who, having flown in from Uruguay only yesterday following a family bereavement, and who I guess Nigel Adkins was only planning to play for 20 minutes maximum, had to come on in the first half and play in an unfamiliar position, which he did, linking up play down the left and doing his fair share of chasing back into defence and making some crucial tackles. And he is being criticised for trying to score a goal, instead of time wasting.

Sorry, but this deserves one of these: <doh>

It deserves even more than that Chilco - a couple of these posts are unbelievable having just seen Saints dominate and win a very important Premier league match. Ramirez came on and did a good job today, and i would much sooner see him have a crack at goal and try and make it 2-0, rather than this suicidal taking the ball into the corner tactic - this has also been the undoing of Saints on more occassions than its helped them in the past.

Just watched the game on Sky, and anyone criticising players are out of order, 89th minute and Lambo chasing down Mariappa, Ramirez tackling hard on the by line, Guly working his socks off. You can't ask for more than that.
