Gaston Ramirez’s agent confirmed “we’ll close the deal with Bologna next week,” as he leaves Southampton.

Rossoblu director Marco Di Vaio admitted yesterday that he had called Ramirez – a former teammate at the club – to see if he was interested in making a move.

“We will close the deal with Bologna the first few days of next week,” agent Paulo Betancourt told SportItalia.

It is return to the Stadio Dall’Ara for the 25-year-old Uruguay international, who was sold to Southampton for €15m in 2012.

Guan on Saintsweb has confirmed it. So bye Ramirez.

If true, then farewell Gaston. Some good memories, but sadly not enough. Handled things well, though. No histrionics, and always looked to add something when he dis play. I hope he does well at Bologna.

Shame he didn't work out, there's some real talent in him and I wish him well. Glad to get his wages off the books though.

The progenitor of the two longest transfer rumour threads in this board's history quietly slips away with hardly a rustle of tumbleweed.

How sad.

Good luck. Makes me sad in a way as he was the great lavish signing we were all excited about when we got back to the PL. Those halcyon days!

Good riddance - worst signing in Southampton history?

Still think he could have been given a bit more of a chance - but obviously consecutive managers haven't seen enough in training to warrant that chance so... Bye!

Gaston was given every chance in the early days of his signing. As we all know he just didn't live up to his reputation. Two of our managers seemed to understand he wasn't up to the mark for the English PL and I gather the Hull manager wasn't overly impressed either.
However no one can question his professionalism. There has been no public bleating or slating of the Saints management he just wasn't suited to the way the PL plays football. I wish him and his family all the best for the future. Also no, he wasn't Saints worst signing in their history.
He is a good player but just not suited to the English PL Osvaldorama!!

Think he's a long way off our worst signing, but you may be right if meaning value for money. Not just the price, but he has cost us a lot in wages. However, bigger teams than us have had disasters where they paid a fortune and got less out of a player than we got out of Gaston. Would have been better for Saints and Gaston if he had moved on earlier.
