That's weird. As kids, a lad up the road used to have tommy ketchup sandwiches. A sandwich should have something solid in it.

No, it's one sandwich, but smaller.

If you then cut it in half you still have two halves of a smaller sandwich.

When I moved to London and first went into a chippy(Finsbury Park), I ordered pattie and chips and a breadcake. I got a Jamaican patty and chips and they told me there was a bakery up the street for cakes.

Never heard of a jamaican patty

I had a housemate years ago who only ever seemed to eat mayonnaise sandwiches.

This was primarily because he spent what little money he had on alcohol and ciggies so all he usually had in the cupboard was a jar of mayonnaise. (He'd generally "borrow" the bread).

There wasn't much on him, like.

They're rather nice... Tesco in St Stephens used to sell them but don't think they do now.

Funnily enough they're a pasty really, not a patty.

I'm a whiz at hot sandwiches.

If it fits in the bread, and it's hot... it's a butty.

Birdseye crispy chicken, cheese (melted under the grill) and onion rings... that's a winner. If onion rings are unavailable use a potato waffle or a couple of hash browns instead. Apply sauce of your choice.

Best in a Cooplands Scotch roll.

As Ren says, they're basically a spicy pasty, that comes in beef, chicken or veg versions...

Go all inclusive in Jamaica and they have them at the bar, after you're a few pints in, you end up having one with every pint.
