Seriously hes better than anyone weve had since robson?
Its like trading in a lada for a bmw

This ^^

This is the 1st time since SBR that I am genuinely excited and pleased by a managerial appointment of real quality and pedigree (if it happens etc etc etc)
Rafa has the potential to be a real game changer for NUFC in the long term ...ie a visible indication of where the club are going and want to be and out with the failed footballing, DOF/sell on, culture we have been engaged with (hopefully)

(I still think Cathro is a good appointment too, as an up coming future (asst) manager)

A perfect finish to the day would be Rafa appointed and Charnley resigns ...win win

Rafa? Please god no.

Better than McLaren, but byjesus he's been hated everywhere except Liverpool and Valencia.

No doubt someone will rush in and say it wasn't Steven Gerrard dragging the team to wins, but the fat Spanish waiter.

If you think our transfer spending is bad, wait til you see Rafa ****ing Benitez. Liverpool should have won more under him, but he filled the team with average ****e. Florent Cinamon Pongolle... Babel... Pennant... Dossena... Keane... Ngog... Aquilani... Rivera... Half the backline which they consider ****e now.

**** me he spent some serious money on turd.

So what you're saying is we've all been McClarened?

Not shabby for 5 years work to be fair.

Reina
Agger
Aurelio
Arbeloa
Mascherano
Alonso
Kuyt
Torres
Sterling

Of those you mentioned, only Keane & Aqualani were more than you paid for Shelvey. Pongolle was signed by Houllier as well.

The rest of them were all cheap squad options, money he had to use to try bulk up the squad.

The guy can pick a player when he's given proper money to spend.

Exactly mate. Some ****s on this thread need to ****ing sectioning.

Just searched Rafa Benitez to see if there was any news and, though its not important, what caught my eye in his profile in the top right is the fact it suggests he's 75kg. Isn't that about 12 stone, he looks more portly than 12 stone.

Anyway, weight aside, I would love to see him come in. I was all behind Mclarens appointment but thats when I thought someone of Benitez's calire was out of our reach...... which he still probably is as it remains to be seen if he will take over

You searched Rafa Benitez and what caught your eye was...

how heavy he is!!!

Not his success at Liverpool, not his managing Inter Milan or Real Madrid, not the trophies he's won but...

how heavy he is!!!

Seriously, have you shares in Weight Watchers or what?

<whistle>

Rafa is a top class manager. They don't come along often and certainly not here. His record is impressive. It's like trading in a Dacia for an Aston Martin. He will do a good job and will overhaul the academy. Make no mistake; he will do the joband do it well.

.Kuyt was a bargain at 5 million , I think one of the directors had to loan the club the money for Rafa to have Kuyt. Certainly worth it .
Litmanen was another good one , no sure what he cost Liverpool mind ya .

He cost £12m from what I remember.
Litmanen was Houllier, joined and left before Rafa.

Yes , new Litmanen was before Rafa but was trying to say that Liverpool did get some good deals for very good players over the years .
If I remember correctly , 5 million for Kuyt , just going off memory though . Pretty sure about the borrowing of the money to get him too . Looks like 10 million , maybe they borrowed half from a director ....or , I' m just completely out of my mind .

You're going to give Rafa credit for Sterling? Really? That was an academy swap. You've nicely dissected a massive problem of his as well, his reliance on Spanish footballers. That ain't happening at le toon.

Xabi Alonso and Torres were his best buys in his career, but ultimately all his success was built on one of the best club players of all time dragging some of his absolute dross to higher levels, and he was a scouser who was already on the books. Giving Benitez the credit seems unjust.
I'm fairly certain the transfer prices have become astronomical since his days on merseyside, but Liverpool spent a big whack during his time and should have won the title.

Why has he been sacked everywhere else? Genius he is not. Agreeable to Spanish methods and with well placed contacts in la liga, maybe.

If he becomes manager, which I can't see anyway, the tide will turn on him pretty quickly.

Who sorry what do you want?

Ultimately I can't believe how quickly everyone betrayed their opinion of McClaren as saviour. I only bumped that thread a few days ago... Seems more salient than ever.

Now same with Rafa. Does he play CB like?

Why do people put so much stock in the merrygoround of managers? Is it because you can't change the players due to the transfer Windows?
I'm starting to think the reason we are a soap opera club, is because we are all ****ing drama queens who need a constant state of flux to have any faith or interest.
