If, for decades, an anchor served a ship, which one day decided to cut its chains and sail away, can the drowning anchor grow wings? And if so, will the anchor always be burdened by the weight of having been used?

An anchor can't drown mate and if it was never burdened again, the sea bed around it would florish with beauty in its salty domain.

It takes away from the context of the song, it was never a derogatory word put in there for a reaction but more just a term from the time and place whether right or wrong at the time doesn't matter.
