When Liverpool sang it for Torres it had words and was quite a nice bit of terrace songmanship. We just did noises along to the tune which always felt really half arsed. Utd even came up with their own words in their disparaging version. Now I'm no Rogers or Hammerstein, but we as a support pretty much never come up with original stuff. The Ashbee song to my knowledge is the only one I've not heard elsewhere first.
Stand near Brian Lee at a match, he comes up with lots of original stuff. Brian Lee and Rob Brydon, never seen together in the same room.
I suggested years ago in a book wot I writt that Brian Lee should be on the clubs payroll. As should Andy Medcalf, one of the original editors of Hull City's first ever fanzine, Hull, Hell & Happiness. I believe Andy eventually got some work with the club but I think Bri's letter must have got lost in the post.
Only Waterstones best selling local book at the time, and the best selling book in the shop beating someone called Terry Pratchett. They sold out 3,000 copies within a month. Second book, which the club refused to sell in the club shop for some reason, was also also on the list. If anyone was remotely interested I had a dozen copies of 'From Boothferry to Wembley' returned to me from the publishers recently. They found them in a cupboard ??? This book is not available anywhere, except second hand copies on ebay, some twat was asking £40 for one the other day ! Interesting point from the first book. In a section about the Tigers 2000 group and the wish list and aims published by the movement at the time, every one was achieved. Unbelievable Jeff!.
I'll be sure to read it again when I have less time. Actually I read most City books several times, and a couple of months ago read the Keith Edwards autobiography for about the fourth time. High time Billy Whitehurst got his finger out and finished his.
