But if we’re honest about it Yorks, without a competent striker we are going to be in and around 16th. Cost conscious or not; or willing to gamble that accepting 16th could turn in to something disastrously worse for the club with a bad run is running a fine line. I am optimistic, however, that things will turn for the better. But as we all know - hope gets you every time.
We always talk about 20 goals a season strikers but we haven't had one of those since Austin in his prime. Not many clubs do have them, on average its something like 4 or 5 players score 20 or more goals in the championship each season. I dont really buy that we are consigned to 16th ish without a new striker, we have to share the goals around as normal. Question is can Richards, Roberts, Armstrong and Bonne (or A N Other) make up for or better the goals we got from Gray (and Austin)? I think yes especially if Willock can play a full season and Chair continues to chip in as well. I think we'll turn a corner even if I too would like us to get another striker.
These are very rare, especially when we have no money. A striker capable of scoring around 15 per season may have to do, with others chipping in.
