Vale was asked to play the most arduous position on the field, midfield pivot he was told to maintain a high press and stop Charlton getting a hold of midfield.

He has been out a full season injured..his previous outings have been limited. He would obviously fade.

He did well for 30 minutes and actually never gave up.

A 7 is a realistic score
I like him and I want him to do well.
During the game I imagined bringing a new supporter to the game.
If I lied to them and said, we've just got Madsen back from a years injury and he is apparently good. And we have Vale, who is good with his feet but slow, has been booed by the crowd for the last year . the newbie would probably say Madsen was having the better game

I thought Vale played well and was a handful early on. I would prefer two up front but I can see him at the front of midfield collecting and moving the ball forward.

As with all players, after 20 minutes (which included an assist) I made my forever decision on him this will never be changed whatever the evidence.

I wouldn;t complain about any of our players.

A few weren't perfect. Dunne and Mbengue (spelling) spring to mind.

The important thing is, we needed the win badly and they all battled hard for the win.

The 2 week break should help all the newbies and those returning from injuries.

I think we will be stronger the next few weeks.

The club has just issued a thank you and bye to Jack Colback. Obviously he is not resigning

There weren't actually that many and for many games he was actually regarded by most on here as our best player on the pitch in a number of games. In some ways better to have someone who got struck in even if he was liable to get the odd red card rather than a tippy tappy lump who bottled any tackles.
