Match preview;
Not much motivation to think about QPR this week, as I've been trying to forget last Saturday, the comical defending, and the goals that kept coming and ruining my birthday afternoon!

Encouraging news this week, as Kaiko Saito has signed a permanent move to Loftus Road, Isaac Hayden has joined on a free transfer after his contract expired at Newcastle, and Rhys Norrington-Davies has arrived on loan from Sheffield United. I'm most excited about having Saito back, and having Hayden back is also great to bolster the squad. Rhys Norrington-Davies spent his first few years as a Sheffield United player out on loan (at Barrow, Rochdale, Luton and Stoke) and has been permanently at Brammall lane since 2021, but only made 57 appearances...which suggests he's been bought in mainly as cover if needed.

As for our opposition, Charlton had an impressive start to the season, beating Watford, but since then they've drawn at Bristol City and lost to Leicester. Nathan Jones took over at The Valley in February 2024. Mid-February they were 20th in the table, so they had an incredible turnaround to finish in the playoffs, and go on to beat Leyton Orient 1-0 at Wembley. They'll be hoping that incredible form under Jones (currently played 78, won 38, drawn 22 and lost 18) will continue this season.

I was at that 1975 League Cup replay. We were up on the huge terrace and I was perfectly placed to watch Dave Thomas from behind hit a 30 yard sh*tpinger into the top corner, an absolutely sweet strike...

Charlie hit a similar corker at our home match in 2013...

we p*ss about at the back with the ball
Kelman nicks the ball off us and scores

The rest will sort itself out over the next few months as those injured recover as we suss our best team

The squad is better than last season so we should be able to do better than our best of last season

Our lads will be keen to redeem themselves after a drubbing but Charlton lost too the mighty Cambridge Unt last night so they'll be looking for something too. Incredibly sadly, the bookies have favoured Charlton for the win.

I don’t recognise Young without his full name I’m afraid.

Leaburn is a legend. Came on as a sub v Reading away January 2002, we lost 1-0 and it was about the only game I went to that season. For some reason his name has lodged, when many more important things are long forgotten.

They can probably play a low press or bench press and we’ll find a way to lose it in our own half. Quite amazing how often we give the ball away 30-40 yards from our own goal. I like Nathan Jones as a manager. Obviously a ridiculous man who badly needs medication and help in general but he gets the best out of a lot of players.

Looks likely Miles Leaburn will start rather than Kelman. A proud moment for QPR legend, Carl.

I'm gonna miss this game and at first I was kind of relieved because of the possibility of unpleasant scenes in the event of another disastrous display. Now, though, my innate optimism is beginning to convince me that we'll have a convincing win - 3-1 I reckon. Get your money on.

Plenty of tickets left. The kick-off time and TV doesn’t help but if we’re taking 1800 to Coventry this early in the season it’s a sign of increased disquiet already. I shall be moaning quietly to myself and unsure what to do with myself now I don’t have Paal to abuse for being closer to me than his winger.
